2021 Centenary Ladies and Gents Swimming Season Preview
The Centenary swimming teams will begin their abbreviated and delayed season on Saturday when the Ladies and Gents welcome Millsaps College to the Centenary Fitness Center for a meet set for Noon.
The swimming teams, along with their fellow teams on campus and all other Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference schools, will take part in a unique, shortened schedule due to continuing implications due to COVID-19.
We're excited for the start of the season and looking forward to competing in our season opener against Millsaps College," said head coach Brad Langford.
"Our swimmers have been working hard over the last couple of months in these unique times. Even though the season will be short we feel that our swimmers can do a good job of competing."
Centenary's three seniors this season will be honored during Saturday's meet as it will serve as the annual "Senior Day" celebration as it is the lone home meet of the season for the Maroon and White. Sarah Harrison (Alexandria, La.), Augustin Cayere-Lopez (Hammond, La.), and Chris Reese (Alexandria, La.) make up the 2021 senior class. Saturday's meet will be live streamed and available FREE at: https://www.collegetvticket.com/portal/centenary.
Both the Ladies and Gents earned top-five finishes at the 2020 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships last February as the Ladies placed fourth overall with a final points total of 407 while the Gents finished fifth with 305 points. The teams were equally impressive out of the water as seventeen Ladies and Gents made the 2020 SCAC Winter Student-Athlete Academic Honor Roll.
Several Ladies and Gents had outstanding individual seasons and one of those was Ladies' sophomore Brianna Serret (Alexandria, La.). One of her highlights was being named the SCAC Women's Swimmer of the Week last December. She put an exclamation point on her fine season at the SCAC Championships in February as she earned all-conference honors with a runner-up finish and two more top-five finishes.
Serret nearly claimed the Women's 100 Yard Butterfly title as she finished second in the finals with a time of 57.08, finished fourth in the finals of the 200 Yard Butterfly, swimming a time of 2:14.75 and also had a third-place finish in the finals of the Women's 100 Yard Backstroke as she swam a time of 59.16. She was named to the 12th-annual SCAC Winter All-Sportsmanship Team, one of just 34 student-athletes selected to the squad and was named to the 2020 SCAC Winter Student-Athlete Academic Honor Roll.
Centenary will head to Sherman, Texas next weekend for a non-conference meet at 1 p.m. versus host Austin College and McMurry University. The Ladies and Gents then finish their seasons at the SCAC Championships Feb. 10-13 in San Antonio.
