The Ladies (5-6) completed an impressive doubleheader sweep over the Williams Baptist University Eagles on Saturday in their home opener, winning both matches by a 3-0 score. The Maroon and White can get to .500 with a win on Wednesday and are off to their best start through 11 games since beginning the 2017 season at 6-5. The Bulldogs (0-9) will face Grambling State on Tuesday night at home.
Centenary and Jarvis Christian are meeting for the second time this season after the Ladies recorded a 3-2 win in their season opener over the Bulldogs on Sept. 3 in Batesville, Ark. as part of the Lyon College Highlander Invitational.
Senior OH Alyssa Davis (Leonard, Texas) is off to a superb season as she is currently ranked second in the conference in kills (96), and sixth in digs with 91. She has played in seven matches and 25 sets and is averaging 3.84 kills/set, which leads the team. She has recorded double digits in kills six times and in digs five times. Her season-high for kills in a match is 19 which she has accomplished twice, Sept. 3 at Millsaps and Sept. 4 at Belhaven. She recorded a season-high 23 digs on Sept. 4 versus Mary Hardin-Baylor. She is tied for the team lead in digs per set (3.64).
Sophomore DS/L Jaycie Proctor (Paris, Texas) is off to a solid start this season as she is second on the team with 80 digs and is tied for Davis for the team lead in digs per set (3.64). Freshman RS Jaylin St. Martin (New Orleans, La.) has had an impressive start to her rookie season as she has 64 kills, second on team, and 49 digs, sixth-most on team. She is averaging 2.78 kills per set (second on team) and 2.13 digs per set. Sophomore DS/L Tori Ligman (Bossier City, La.) has 73 digs (third on team) and averages 3.04 digs per set, fourth-best on team.
Junior MB Liz Lowe (San Antonio, Texas) has 56 kills, third-most on the team, and is averaging 2.33 kills per set, also third on team, and has added 16 digs. Senior DS/L Marichael Clarin-Jante (Houston, Texas) has 153 assists to rank fourth in the SCAC and is also fourth on the team with 57 digs and averages 2.28 digs per set.
The Ladies remain at home next week for a pair of matches, on Tuesday, Sept. 21 versus Grambling at 6 p.m. and then Wednesday, Sept. 22 at 6 p.m. versus Louisiana College.
