Emma Lavelle Named As Finalist For Prestigious AAI Award
Senior Emma Lavelle (Mandeville, La.) has been named a finalist for the prestigious AAI Award sponsored by American Athletic Inc. (AAI).
Shreveport - Senior Emma Lavelle (Mandeville, La.) has been named a finalist for the prestigious AAI Award sponsored by American Athletic Inc. (AAI).
The AAI Award is given annually and is voted on by NCAA women's gymnastics head coaches throughout the nation. The award, which is sponsored by the American Athletic Inc., is often likened to the Heisman Trophy for Women's Gymnastics and has become a symbol of excellence in the sport.
Lavelle is the only division III gymnast of the 59 nominees in the country. She was the recipient of the Midwest Independent Conference Coaches' Choice Award on Feb. 4, as she earned one of the four individual honors that the conference chooses on a weekly basis and received it for the first time in her career. She tied her career high score on beam with an impressive 9.80 last weekend in a quad meet in Normal, Ill. against host and fellow MIC member Illinois State University, Bowling Green University, and Central Michigan University.
She is a three-time Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) Academic All-American, been named a MIC Scholar-Athlete three times, member of the Dean's List, and has twice been named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® Women's At-Large team.
The Ladies will face Fisk University in their final home meet of the regular season this Saturday, March 8 at 5 p.m. and then head to Minneapolis, Minn. on March 16 to face the host University of Minnesota Gophers, Iowa, and LIU in a quad meet to wrap up the regular season.

The Ladies will host the annual MIC Championships on Friday, March 21 at 4 p.m. as well as the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics National Invitational Championships April 11-13 and tickets are on sale NOW for both events inside the Gold Dome at the links below:
