Centenary Ladies Gym Talk: November 17 Edition
Hi Centenary Gymnastics Fans, this is Nyah Washington with my first Gym Talk!!
A few weeks ago, the Ladies had our first Intrasquad on Halloween. It was such a fun way to ramp up and prepare for the upcoming gymnastics season!
We divided into two different teams to create some healthy competition, the Maroon Mummies and the Ghost Gang. To add to the Halloween festivities, we all showed up to the gym in our Halloween costumes!
As a freshman, this was my first glimpse at the structure of a college gymnastics meet. We kicked off warm-ups with our favorite team cheers and the gym was filled with positive and vibrant energy. Event warm-ups began starting with Floor, then Vault, Bars, and finishing on beam.
College meets are set up differently from club meets so instead of warming up an event and competing it right away, I warmed up all four events before going back and competing them.
This was such a great learning experience and it challenged me to stay mentally focused and trust in my training. Although warm-ups can be slightly nerve-wracking, the energy from dancing, cheering, and loud music made all the difference. Us Ladies definitely know how to have fun and stay focused at the same time! Once we finished warming up all of the events, it was GO TIME and the Halloween Intrasquad official started.
I was so excited to have the opportunity to showcase all four events at this intrasquad and I had a blast! A huge personal highlight for me was competing new routines on Vault and Bars. It was so fun to perform new skills that I have been working so hard on every day in the gym.
One of my favorite parts of the intrasquad was my incredibly supportive teammates. Everyone worked together to keep the intrasquad running smoothly whether it was setting the bars, moving mats, or giving a word of encouragement. Another one of my favorite parts was chanting the L-A-D-I-E-S cheer and giving everyone high fives after every routine. I am so blessed to be a part of such an amazing, supportive, encouraging, hard-working, and driven team!
Overall, this intrasquad was the perfect jumpstart to my first season as a Lady. I cannot wait to see all of the incredible things this upcoming season has in store for this remarkable team. As always, always, GEAUX LADIES!!!
