Shreveport - Freshman Leila Dunlavy (Twin Falls, Idaho) is this week's recipient of the Coaches' Choice Award, the Midwest Independent Conference announced on Wednesday.
Dunlavy earned one of the four individual honors that the conference chooses on a weekly basis and received it for the first time in her career.
She had a season-best 9.625 on vault to finish second in the Ladies' a non-conference dual meet on Friday against the University of Alaska Anchorage Seawolves.
Here is what Centenary head coach Meg Crowley had to say about Leila:
"As a freshman, Leila answered the call not once — but twice — this past weekend when her team needed her most. On Friday night, after a rough vault touch warm-up from a teammate, Leila shifted from exhibition to lineup at the last minute. Without hesitation, she stepped up, delivered a beautiful vault, stuck it cold, and earned our highest vault score of the night. That kind of response speaks volumes."
"Then on Sunday, during the four-minute touch on floor, we faced another unexpected injury. Once again, Leila was ready. No panic. No excuses. Just steady preparation meeting opportunity. She stepped into the lineup with confidence and composure, showing the kind of poise under pressure that even seasoned competitors sometimes struggle to maintain.
"Leila is a rock-solid competitor. She is unfazed by last-minute changes and embodies the maturity, readiness, and team-first mentality that define our program. I am incredibly proud of her composure, resilience, and the way she continues to rise to the moment for Centenary."
