Gents Hold Off Hawks To Remain Unbeaten
The Centenary lacrosse team remained unbeaten following a hard-fought 13-11 victory over the Huntingdon College Hawks in a non-conference contest on Saturday afternoon at Atkins Field.
Shreveport – The Centenary lacrosse team remained unbeaten following a hard-fought 13-11 victory over the Huntingdon College Hawks in a non-conference contest on Saturday afternoon at Atkins Field.
The Gents (5-0) are now 3-0 at home this season and scored double-digit goals for the fifth time in five games. The Hawks fell to 2-3 on the season and were playing their first road game. Centenary is also off to its best start in program history.
Sophomore A Noah Walsh (Mount Prospect, Ill.) scored a game-high five goals to lead the Gents and freshman O/MF Aiden McQuat (Lafayette, La.) had three. Freshman MF Andrew Hayden (Bryant, Ark.) and junior M Ethan Hewett (Bossier City, La.) each scored two goals and freshman FO Gavin Ferrington (Bossier City, La.) added one. Walsh added two assists and sophomore D Carter Romero (Lafayette, La.) had one.
Freshman GK Jake Huff (Carlisle, Mass.) went the distance and recorded a season-high 12 saves while the Hawks used two goalies, Ethan Schellenberger and Nathan Brezovec, who combined made 15 saves. Schellenberger (0-1) started the game and was charged with the loss.
Ferrington had a team-leading 11 ground balls, Hayden finished with four, and McQuat and freshman LSM Kian Fox (Shreveport, La.) each had three while Romero finished with two. Freshman D Grant McGuire (Benton Ark.) had a pair.
Jaxon McMonigle led the Hawks with four goals, Kelcey Marston and Connor Angst each had two, and three players had one goal each.
