Conway, Ark. - The Centenary College STUNT team recorded a victory over division II program Southwest Baptist University to highlight another impressive weekend in a tournament hosted by the University of Central Arkansas inside the HPER Center.
The Ladies defeated Southwest Baptist 10-1 in their first game of the weekend and followed that by posting three points on the board against D2 Southern Nazarene University, whom had blanked the Ladies 12-0 earlier this season, and went within two in two other routines for a 10-3 final.
"We played really well," said head coach Kaylee King. All the things we worked on all week finally clicked. The girls put out a fantastic game and really locked in on the task at hand! It was such a fun game and SBU is always a great opponent."
"The Ladies pushed hard for this game. Their goal was to play better against them than they did last time we saw them, and they did just that. The team was on fire Saturday morning and claiming that first point was electrifying. I don't think SNU anticipated us to score like that or to be within two against them for other."
Following the SNU game, Centenary played Drury University, a well-versed DII team that the Ladies were unable to score on.
"It just wasn't our game. We still played well but we had some mistakes that just didn't allow us to put points on the board. It's always tough playing back-to-back games like we did. I am still proud of the fight they put in and the noticeable difference this weekend from weeks prior. Drury has experience under their belt and we were their only game for the day, so they had time to rest. I think that plays a big factor into the energy that can be brought to a game."
Along with points on the board, the following Ladies earned 120 rounds of play: sophomore Kaitlynne Anderson (Carlisle, Pa.), sophomore Ezmeriah Gonzalez (Longview, Texas), freshman Trinity Bustamento (Blanchard, La.), senior Avery Cauley (Little Rock, Ark.), freshman Bryanna Hutcherson (Normangee, Texas), sophomore Alli Ledoux (Port Barre, La.), and sophomore Leah Dawson (Shreveport, La.).
Hitting 100 round of play were: sophomore J'Anna Sweat (Pitkin, La.), sophomore Dalila Ramirez (Austin, Texas), sophomore Briara Thompson (Bossier City, La.), sophomore Harleigh Doherty (Cincinnati, Ohio), and junior Jo Hoffman (Ragley, La.).
Key Players for game one included Anderson, Gonzalez, Bustamento, Cauley, and Dawson. Game two saw key players of Anderson, Ledoux, Thompson, and Doherty. Sweat, Ramirez and Hutcherson were selected as key players of the game to cap off the weekend. Hoffman was voted MVP for game one, Anderson was selected for game two and Cauley was chosen for game three.
The Ladies will finish the season this weekend in a tournament hosted by the University of Tennessee at Martin in Martin, Tenn.
