Shreveport - Three Ladies were named All-Americans by the College STUNT Coaches Association (CSCA), the organization announced on Wednesday.
Senior Avery Cauley (Little Rock, Ark.), sophomore Ezmeriah Gonzalez (Longview, Texas), and sophomore J'Anna Sweat (Pitkin, La.) all earned the prestigious honor as Cauley was named to the First Team, Sweat to the Second Team, and Gonzales earned Honorable-Mention honors.
The number of athletes from each team receiving All-American honors is based on the end of the season ranking for each team. The Ladies' eighth-place final ranking allotted them one honoree for each category. All-Americans are selected by the members of the College STUNT Coach Association.
All nominees had to meet the following criteria:
-Participate in all 4 quarters of competition (Partner Stunts, Pyramids & Tosses, Jumps & Tumbling, Team Routine)
-Participate in at least 50% of games played
-Be a vital component to the team's success and have that shown by their routines.
It's great to see our athletes get post season recognition in our inaugural season, said Centenary head coach Kaylee King. "Our team one worked hard all season long to really lay the foundation for our program and these three athletes were intricate parts in doing so."
"As a senior Avery Cauley played in all four quarters of the game and played a major role in each one of them. As our lead tumbler, she continuously represented our program and held it down for us in that quarter. Avery also played as one of our three partner stunt flyers as well as the top girl and mid-layer of our pyramids and baskets. For only one year in the sport, she truly left her mark in our program and the sport."
"J'Anna Sweat played the season as our go-to top girl for our pyramids and tosses quarter. After continuously fighting through a shoulder injury all season, she still continued to push herself to gain new skills and fight to keep getting better week after week. J'Anna also played in all four quarters of the game each weekend."
"Receiving Honorable Mention honors for Ezmeriah Gonzalez is well deserved. Ezy played as a base throughout the season as well as a pyramid mid-layer. But the most notable accomplishment of the season was her throwing her back handspring in the ending weekends games of the season. It was a significant milestone that I am very proud of her for achieving.
The Ladies finished eighth in the country in the division III rankings out of 13 teams this season as the first and only NCAA Varsity STUNT team in the state of Louisiana and the only DIII team in the south.
