The Ladies (1-9, 0-2 SCAC) fell 84-44 to the University of the Ozarks Eagles in a league contest on Jan. 4 in Clarksville, Ark. and have lost eight games in a row and are 0-4 at home this season. The Crusaders enter Sunday's action at 1-10 overall and are 0-2 in SCAC play. Dallas, who has lost three games in a row overall, is 0-5 on the road this season.
The Ladies are averaging 56.7 PPG, shooting 32.0 % from the floor, 18.4 % from beyond the arc, 68.0 % from the free-throw line, and average 40.1 rebounds/game.
Ladies' Season Individual Statistical Leaders:
Scoring: Freshman F Shyanne Phillips (Leesville, La.) – 11.3 PPG
Rebounding: Phillips – 11.0 RPG
Assists: Freshman G Nevaeh Rivera (Rosepine, La.) – 2.4/game
Blocks: Junior F Kyra Stokes (Shreveport, La.) – 0.6/game
Steals: Rivera – 2.8/game
Rivera is second on the team in scoring averaging 10.2 PPG and her 2.8 steals per game are second-best in the conference. Junior F Layla Powell (Fort Worth, Texas) is third on the team in scoring at 8.7 PPG, junior G Amiyah Barrow (Baton Rouge, La.) is fourth (7.4 PPG), and freshman F Anaya Yunusah (New Orleans, La.) is fifth at 6.2 PPG. Freshman G Kaysharia Woods (Zachary, La.) is averaging 4.7 PPG, freshman G Alexis Duhon (Westlake, La.) is averaging 3.6 PPG, and Stokes is averaging 3.1 PPG and ranks in the top 15 in the league in blocked shots – 0.6/game.
Philips is the conference's third-leading rebounder and is ranked in the top 20 in scoring. She is also tied for fifth in the league in FT % (84.6). Philips has scored in double figures five times this season and has recorded three double-doubles. Cabrera has also reached double figures five times with one double-double.
Powell and Yunusah each scored 14 points to lead the Ladies against Ozarks last weekend Powell, who has reached double figures five times this season, has been especially hot lately as she has scored in double digits in four-straight games. Powell, like Phillips, is an excellent free-throw shooter and is tied for 10th in the conference at 79.4 %.
Dallas averages 61.2 PPG and shoots 33.2 % from the floor, 30.2 % from beyond the arc, and 71.4 % at the FT line. The Crusaders average 38.4 rebounds/game and two players average double figures – Adryan Alvarez (17.4 PPG) and Alyssa Sullivan (13.5 PPG). Sullivan is the Crusaders' leading rebounder at 6.8/game. Both Alvarez and Sullivan rank in the top 10 in the conference in scoring and Sullivan is 10th in rebounding.
Sunday begins a four-game homestand for the Ladies as they will next face Austin College on Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 5:30 p.m. and then welcome both Southwestern University and Texas Lutheran University to town next weekend.
The Ladies and Crusaders will meet again next month, on Saturday, Feb. 22 in Irving, Texas in the regular-season finale for both teams.
