THIS WEEK IN CENTENARY ATHLETICS:
As we have entered the month of March this week, Centenary athletics is as busy as it has been since competition resumed back in mid-January.
Starting on Thursday and wrapping up on Sunday, ten of Centenary's athletic teams will be in action with six of those teams playing on campus this weekend. On Saturday alone, five individual contests are scheduled to take place with three games (baseball, men's soccer, and softball) at beginning at the same time (Noon).

Notable accomplishments and highlights from last weekend and the beginning of this week:
*Ladies softball junior pitcher Ashley Hunter was named the SCAC Pitcher of the Week on Monday for games played from Tuesday, February 9 through Sunday, February 28.
Hunter (Benton, La.) earned the honor for the first time in her career. She went 2-0 last week for the Ladies, picking up a win over Hendrix last Thursday before returning to the circle on Saturday to earn a win over Millsaps. For the week, Hunter pitched 11 innings, scattering just nine hits, and allowing just two earned runs for an ERA of 1.27. She struck out seven and walked just three, while averaging 4.45 strikeouts per seven innings. Monday's honor marked the second week in a row that a Ladies pitcher earned SCAC Pitcher of the Week recognition after Hunter's teammate freshman Hailee Leger (Belle Chasse, La.) earned the award on Feb. 8. Centenary has picked up the first two Pitcher of the Week awards this season in the conference.
Senior goalkeeper of Ladies soccer Maggie Pitcher (San Antonio, Texas) was named the SCAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week on Monday for games played through Sunday, February 28th. Pitcher has helped the Ladies stay perfect through four games of the season as the Maroon and White have done so for the third consecutive season. She has posted three shutouts in net and has recorded 16 saves, including five in the win over St. Thomas last Friday to secure three important points in the standings to open league play. Pitcher currently leads the SCAC with 16 saves and has an impressive .941 save percentage to start the year. She played all 90 minutes last Friday versus the Celts and recorded the ninth shutout of her career which ties her for the most career shutouts in the division III era (2012-present).
*The women's soccer team (4-0) recorded its third-straight shutout on Friday as they opened SCAC play with a 3-0 win over St. Thomas on the road. Centenary has allowed only one goal all season and has now outscored the opposition, 12-1. The Ladies have won 20 of their last 23 matches dating back to the beginning of last season and are 10-2 in their last 12 road matches.
*Ten different Ladies have scored goals this season including four by true freshmen. Centenary is now one shutout away from tying its single-season record of five which it set last season. The Ladies also recorded four shutouts in the 2013 and 2016 seasons. The Maroon and White have also started 4-0 for the third-straight season, getting off to a 10-0 start last season and a 6-0 start in 2018.
*Six Centenary student-athletes have been named SCAC Player of the Week in their respective sports so far this season? That is SIX in just two months so far! Five different sports have been represented - baseball, men's basketball, men's swimming, softball, and women's soccer!
*The Centenary Ladies gymnastics team is ranked 51st in the nation in the latest Road to Nationals weekly poll as Centenary is the highest ranked division III team.
*The Gold Dome was the place to be last weekend as the Ladies and Gents basketball teams played their final regular-season games against the St. Thomas Celts. The Ladies played a solid game on Friday night, leading the majority of the game before falling, 57-55. But, the next day on Senior Day, they saved their best for last. Sophomore forward Jazzmyn Jones (Normangee, Texas) tied the game at 59-59 with a shot off the glass with .006 on the clock to send the game to overtime and then the Ladies held on for a 70-69 victory, their first of the season.
Centenary freshman guard Addy Tremie (Sulphur, La.) had another fantastic weekend for the Ladies as she scored a career-high 21 points in Friday's narrow loss as she made 8-21 shots from the field and grabbed a career-high nine rebounds in 38 minutes. Tremie added a steal and made all three of her free throw attempts. She then scored 17 points in the Ladies' thrilling 70-69 overtime win the next day on Senior Day. Tremie shot 7-20 from the floor in 32 minutes and had six rebounds, two steals, and an assist. She finished the season averaging a team-high 15.7 PPG and reached double figures eight time in nine games this season. Tremie finished the season ranked third in the SCAC in scoring, third in three-point FG's made, third in minutes played, tied for 12th in defensive rebounds, and tied for 14th in overall rebounding. Quite a rookie season!
*The men lost a tight game, 66-63, on Friday but rebounded to win a thriller on Saturday, 71-69. The Gents (7-3) survived a video review of a last-second shot that would have tied the game and sent it into overtime but it was ruled no good as Centenary closed its regular season with a thrilling win over the Celts (8-4). The Gents and Celts finished the regular season tied for second behind regular-season champion Trinity (8-1) and Centenary clinched the No. 3 seed in next weekend's conference championship.
SCAC Player of the Year candidate Seth Thomas (Kilgore, Texas) led the Gents on Saturday with a game-high 22 points in 39 minutes as he made 7 of his 14 attempts from the floor and was 5-7 from beyond the arc in one of his best performances of the season. He added eight rebounds, a steal, two blocks, and was 3-5 from the free-throw line. Thomas, who scored 16 points on Friday, has now scored in double figures in nine of the Gents' 10 games this season. He ranks second in the SCAC in both scoring (15.7 PPG) & rebounding (9.1 RPG) and ranks first in the SCAC in defensive rebounds (77) and is second in the SCAC in steals (25).
Take a look at more of the phenomenal statistics for this superb sophomore:
