Centenary Athletics: Weekly Recap
Centenary athletics had another successful week. The weekend was especially busy with NINE home athletic contests on campus! Oh and Centenary WON ALL NINE OF THOSE GAMES! How about our Ladies and Gents!!! Baseball, lacrosse, men's Basketball, men's Soccer, softball, and women's Soccer all were victorious! Let's recap all of it here ...

The men's basketball team defended its home court on Friday night as the Gents defeated Texas Lutheran in the quarterfinals of the 2021 SCAC Championship at the Gold Dome to advance to this weekend's semifinals against St. Thomas! On Monday, the SCAC Office announced that two Centenary student-athletes were named Player of the Week in their respective sports and both earned the honor for the first time in their careers. Sophomore Parker Primeaux (Lake Charles, La.) of Gents baseball earned SCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week honors for the first time in his career after he made an appearance in all three games of the non-conference weekend series against Dubuque and pitched 5.2 scoreless innings. He allowed just two hits with four strikeouts and did not walk a batter while picking up saves in two of his three outings.
Sophomore Andres Bautista (Houston, Texas) of Gents soccer was named the SCAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week. Bautista scored the game-winning goal in the Gents' 1-0 home victory against Dallas on Sunday, his first goal of the season and the seventh of his career as he scored in the 82nd minute to break the scoreless tie to help secure three important points in the standings. He finished the game with five shots and three shots on target.
The Centenary men's and women's track teams completed their first meet in program history on Saturday at the Mississippi College Outdoor Season Opener held in Clinton, Miss. The Ladies gymnastics team finished third on Sunday in a tri-meet versus the host Texas Woman's University Pioneers and the University of Oklahoma Sooners in Denton, Texas. The Ladies volleyball team has now completed four matches of SCAC play and this past weekend the Ladies earned a road split with Texas Lutheran led by some impressive individual performances in both matches. The women's soccer team takes a break from SCAC play to face Mississippi University for Women on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Mayo Field.
The Ladies softball team will play in the Hardin Simmons/McMurry University Spring Break Tournament at Abilene, Texas.
The lacrosse team hits the road on Friday to face Huntingdon College at 7 p.m. in a non-conference match.
The baseball team faces LeTourneau in a non-conference doubleheader on Friday with games set for 3 and 6 p.m.
The Ladies gymnastics team welcomes TWU to the Gold Dome on Friday at 6 p.m. for its final home meet of the season as Centenary celebrates Senior Night!
Six teams will be in action on Saturday including the men's basketball team facing St. Thomas in Houston at 3 p.m. in the SCAC Championship semifinals. Be on the lookout for a special preview of that game and a further look at the weekend action as a whole.
