Updated Spring 2021 Athletics Schedule Announced
Centenary athletics has announced the finalization of its men’s and women’s basketball schedules, a revised women’s volleyball schedule, and schedules for men’s and women’s swimming, and lacrosse, as the spring 2021 athletics schedule continues to move closer to being complete. A portion of the spring 2021 schedule was announced last month after the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference finalized the conference-wide schedule for its nine member schools.
Centenary athletics has announced the finalization of its men's and women's basketball schedules, a revised women's volleyball schedule, and schedules for men's and women's swimming, and lacrosse as the spring 2021 athletic schedule continues to become more clear.
A portion of the spring 2021 schedule was announced last month after the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference finalized the conference-wide schedule for its nine member schools. Due to the postponement and rescheduling of all fall and winter sports as a results of issues and concerns related to COVID-19, each of the Ladies' and Gents varsity sports and one club sport (men's club volleyball) will compete in the spring of 2021. Centenary will also debut its cheer and dance teams in the spring.
The men's and women's basketball teams will each play six conference home games and six conference road games. Centenary begins its season on Friday, Jan. 15 versus Texas Lutheran in the Gold Dome. The Ladies will play first followed by the Gents for all playing dates this season. Game times will be announced at a later date. The Maroon and White will play the same opponent on consecutive days in a unique wrinkle to the schedule. So Centenary faces TLU again on Saturday, Jan. 16 and then welcomes Colorado College to town on Feb. 5 and 6 and finishes its regular season on Feb. 26 and 27 versus St. Thomas. The SCAC Basketball Tournaments will be held March 4-6 as the men will play at Southwestern in Georgetown, Texas while the women will be in Sherman, Texas hosted by Austin College.
The men's and women's swimming teams will face Millsaps in its lone home meet of the season, as Saturday, Jan. 16 will serve as "Senior Day" for the Ladies and Gents in a dual-meet set for Noon. The Maroon and White will then travel to Sherman, Texas on Saturday, Jan. 23 to square off against host Austin College and McMurry in a 1 p.m. meet. The 2021 SCAC Championships will be held Feb. 10-13 in San Antonio, Texas.
The lacrosse team will begin its season on Saturday, Feb. 6 at home versus Midland University. The Gents will play six total home games and their first road match will be Feb. 13 at Huntingdon. Centenary will have "home and home" matches with SCAC opponents Colorado College, Dallas, and Southwestern. Game dates may change and game times will be announced at a later date.
The men's soccer team will play four home matches and four road matches while the women's soccer team will play four home matches and three road matches. The Gents will host the SCAC men's soccer championship at Mayo Field on April 23 and 25. Four teams will compete in the event with the two semifinal matches held on Friday, April 23 and the championship contest on Sunday, April 25.
The SCAC quarterfinals of the women's soccer championship will be held on Saturday, April 17 at the site of the conference's top seed. The semifinals will be held on Friday, April 23 in Seguin, Texas hosted by Texas Lutheran University with the championship contest set for Sunday, April 25.
The Ladies volleyball team has seen a change in their schedule. The Ladies will play seven home matches over four dates, all against SCAC opponents, as the Maroon and White will play three doubleheaders and a single match. Centenary begins its season at home on Saturday, Feb. 20 with a doubleheader against Austin College with matches set for 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. The Ladies are also at home for a doubleheader on Saturday, March 20 versus Schreiner (1 p.m./5 p.m.), Saturday, March 27 versus Dallas (Noon/4 p.m.), and close out the home schedule on Saturday, April 10 for its annual Senior Day match against Colorado College at 1 p.m. The Ladies will face Southwestern, St. Thomas, Texas Lutheran, and Trinity on the road. The SCAC volleyball tournament will be hosted by Trinity University on April 16 and 17 in San Antonio, Texas. The men's club volleyball team opens its season on Jan. 13 at home versus Louisiana Tech and will also welcome the Bulldogs to town again on March 10. The Gents will also face Louisiana tech twice in Ruston and participate in four tournaments during its debut season.
The Centenary baseball team will begin its season the weekend of March 19-21 as the Diamond Gents face Austin College on the road. The Gents are at home the following weekend (March 26-28) to face Schreiner at Shehee Stadium. Centenary closes the regular season at home against Texas Lutheran the weekend of April 30-May 2. The SCAC Baseball Tournament will be held at the Depot at Cleburne Station in Cleburne, Texas May 7-9.
The Centenary softball team begins its season March 6-7 at home against Austin College and after a week off, the Ladies welcome St. Thomas to town on March 20 and 21 for a three-game series. The Ladies are at Dallas March 27 and 28 for their first conference road series. Centenary closes the regular season at Schreiner April 24 and 25. The SCAC Softball Tournament will be hosted by Schreiner in Kerrville, Texas April 30-May 2. The top six teams in the regular season standings qualify for the double –elimination event.
The schedules for men's and women's cross country, gymnastics, and men's and women's track and field will be released soon once finalized. Gymnastics is likely to begin in early to mid-January. The remaining sports will compete from February through April/May.
