Three Centenary Gymnasts Named WCGA All-Americans
Division III Regular Season All America Award winners for the 2021 season were announced today by the Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association and three Centenary gymnasts were recognized for their outstanding seasons.
Bowling Green, Ohio – Division III Regular Season All America Award winners for the 2021 season were announced today by the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association and three Centenary gymnasts were recognized for their outstanding seasons.
Sophomore Kendall Huff (Riviera, Texas), senior Sierra Ponder (Stone Mountain, Ga.), and junior Kendall Sanders (Spring Branch, Texas) were each named All-Americans.
First Team All-America is awarded to the top (1) finisher, plus ties, of the NCAA regular season for all four (4) events plus the all-around. scores are based on the NQS at the end of regular-season competition. The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference institutions elected not to participate in this year's awards.
Huff earned her honors on vault with a NQS of 9.731, Ponder on bars with NQS of 9.694, and Sanders earned her honors on beam (9.681), floor (9.700), and all-around (38.519).
Ponder and Sanders were also named All-Americans by USA Gymnastics earlier this week as Ponder earned Second Team All-American honors on bars and Sanders garnering First Team honors on floor and in the all-around. Huff and Sanders earned all-conference honors following last month's annual Midwest Independence Conference (MIC) Championships. Sanders placed fourth in the all-around with a score of 38.650 at the meet to earn all-around second team honors and also earned second-team recognition on floor with a 9.700. Huff earned All-MIC Second Team honors on vault with a new career-high 9.800. Ponder was named MIC Senior Athlete of the Year following the meet. Huff, Ponder, and Sanders were also all named MIC Scholar-Athletes as each earned a 3.25 GPA or higher.
