SHREVEPORT�-Centenary Director of Athletics Dr. Tom Tallach today announced that Rob Flaska's contract would not be renewed as head men's basketball coach. A search for Flaska's successor will begin immediately.
"Over his three years, Rob was able to make some progress under some difficult circumstances. For that we are very appreciative," said Tallach. "At this time, we are looking for something different in terms of leadership, and that is the rationale for this very difficult decision."
Flaska recently completed his third year at the helm of the Centenary men's basketball program. He came to lead the Gents after five years of successful assistant coaching stops at both Arkansas and Texas Christian University. His two recruiting classes at Arkansas were ranked in the top five by many major basketball publications.
Flaska tallied a three-year record of 24-65 at Centenary, highlighted by this season's 70-66 victory over Texas Tech. His three-year conference record was 9-39, which included two trips to the conference tournament as the eighth seed. Both times the Gents were eliminated by the top-seeded Oral Roberts Golden Eagles in the opening round.
Centenary players Alexander Starr, Tyrone Hamilton, and Nick Stallings were all named as all-conference selections under Flaska's guidance. Starr was a first team honoree in 2006-07 and Hamilton earned second team honors the same year. This season Hamilton and Stallings were both awarded honorable mention accolades.
"We wish Rob only the very best of luck in his future endeavors," added Tallach.
The position at Centenary was the first as a head coach at the Division I level for Flaska.
