SHREVEPORT, La. - The Centenary Ladies and Gents basketball teams released their 2016-17 schedules Wednesday, Aug. 31.
The schedule features 12 home games and a p7air of contests for both teams against a 2016 NCAA Division III Tournament participant. The women battle NCAA qualifier Trinity in San Antonio Jan. 7 and in Shreveport Feb. 11. The Gents takes on Texas Lutheran Jan. 22 in the Gold Dome and visit Seguin, Texas, on Jan. 28.
The Gents also play at Stephen F. Austin, who came within a tip-in with 1.5 seconds left from making the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Division I "Sweet 16" last season. The Maroon and White battles the Lumberjacks Dec. 3 in Nacogdoches, Texas.
"As always, we are excited for this time of year and the release of our schedule," explained Gents head coach Adam Walsh. "We have a couple of new, but familiar, regional opponents on the slate this year in LeTourneau, Ozarks, and Louisiana College. We have high expectations each year we step on the court, and that is where we are this year. We believe that our non-conference schedule will absolutely prepare us."
The schedule features nine home dates where the Centenary basketball teams will play back-to-back games. The Ladies play first, followed by the Gents approximately 25 minutes after the conclusion of the women's game. The first such date is the home opener for both squads on Nov. 27 against McMurry at 2 p.m.
The final non-conference home double-header will be against Hendrix on Monday, Jan. 2, beginning at 4 p.m.
The other seven home dates are all Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contests. The schedule is as follows:
- 5:30 p.m. tip-offs on Fridays against Colorado College (Jan. 13), Southwestern (Jan. 20) and Schreiner (Feb. 10)
- 4 p.m. scheduled starts on Saturdays against Dallas (Jan. 14), Trinity (Feb. 11) and Austin College (Feb. 18).
- Noon start time against Texas Lutheran on Sunday (Jan. 22).
Both teams will make a return trip to all SCAC schools: Austin College on Dec. 30, Schreiner on Jan. 6, Trinity on Jan. 7, Southwestern on Jan. 27, Texas Lutheran on Jan. 28, Colorado College on Feb. 3 and the final regular season road game at Dallas on Feb. 5
The Ladies play three home games in the month of December, battling Millsaps on the Monday the 5 (TBA starting time), Belhaven on Saturday the 10 (6 p.m.) and Rust on Sunday the 18 (6 p.m.)
The Gents also have a trio of home games in December, playing Pelican State-rival Louisiana College on Thursday the 8 (7 p.m.), Millsaps on Saturday the 17 (2 p.m.) and Rust on Monday the 19 (3 p.m.).
Both teams take part in the SCAC-Southern Athletic Association Classic Nov. 19-20, hosted by MIllsaps. The Gents and Ladies will play both the hosts Majors and Hendrix.
Other games include doubleheaders at I-20 rivals East Texas Baptist on Tuesday Nov. 15 (5:30 p.m.) and LeTourneau on Saturday, Nov. 26 (1 p.m.). Centenary basketball also plays a double dip at the University of the Ozarks Thursday, Dec. 1 at 5:30 p.m.
Finally, the Ladies make a trip to Dallas for the second-consecutive year to take on Dallas Christian Monday, Jan. 16 at 6 p.m.
Southwestern will host the 2017 SCAC Tournament Feb. 24-26 in Georgetown, Texas.
