The Ladies (0-2) and Mountaineers (2-4) will complete the series on Friday with a single game at 3 PM. The original schedule was a DH on Friday and a single game on Saturday but was revised due to the potential for severe weather on Saturday.
Centenary was swept in a non-conference doubleheader by the Millsaps College Majors to open its season last Saturday, falling 7-6 in game one and 3-1 in game two in Jackson, Miss. Schreiner split a DH at home against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor at home last Saturday.
The Ladies took two of three games against the Mountaineers last season in Kerrville, Texas. Schreiner leads the all-time series 26-18 but Centenary has won five of the last six games.
The Ladies were picked to finish fifth in the conference preseason poll while the Mountaineers are predicted to finish eighth. The 2026 SCAC Softball Tournament will be held May 1-3 in Abilene, Texas and hosted by McMurry. The top six teams in the standings at the conclusion of the regular season qualify for the event. The Ladies have now made nine-consecutive SCAC Tournament appearances.
Senior 3B Morgan Dawson (Natchitoches, La.) got off to a hot start last weekend as she hit .600 (3-5) with three RBI and a BB as she finished with a .571 OBP and slugged .600. Senior 2B Catherine Stokes (Natchitoches, La.) and senior LF Laine Sullivan (Prairieville, La.) combined to go 4-8 with three runs scored, four walks, two RBI, and a stolen base. Stokes drew three of those walks herself and had both RBI.
Senior UT Emma Crow (Krotz Springs, La.) went 1-3 in game two against the Majors and also pitched 2.2 innings in game one as she suffered the loss in relief of senior P/OF Alexis Roach (Pineville, La.). Crow allowed five runs but just one earned and six hits with two BB and a strikeout. Roach went four innings and allowed two earned runs on six hits with a pair of BB and no K's. Freshman P/INF Haydyn Schexnayder (Egan, La.) went the distance in game two against Millsaps as she started and allowed three runs, all earned, on 11 hits with no BB and a pair of K's.
Millsaps took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning in game one but Centenary responded with a pair in the top of the third to take a 2-1 lead. The Majors tied it with a run in the bottom of the fourth and scored three times in the fifth to take a 5-2 advantage before tacking on one more in the sixth to make it 6-2. The Ladies, though, fought back and scored four times in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 6-6.
Stokes had an RBI single, Schexnayder followed with a run-scoring single to make it 6-4 and Dawson delivered a clutch two-RBI single to tie the game. But, Hailey Marange came in the game in relief of starter Allana Vasquez and retired senior 1B Abigail Hodgson (Florence, Texas) to end the inning and keep the game tied. With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Marange reached on an error by junior SS Hilary Pillaro (Centerville, La.) that moved 3B Mathis to third base after she had singled to open the inning. A wild pitch by Crow allowed Mathis to score the winning run for the Majors.
Game two was scoreless through three innings until an RBI single gave Millsaps a 1-0 lead in the fourth. Stokes' RBI single scored Sullivan in the fifth to tie the game, but two runs in the sixth gave the Majors a 3-1 lead and they held off the Ladies in the final inning to secure the victory and DH sweep.
