Ladies Fall To YellowJackets 4-2 On Friday Night
The Centenary softball team dropped the opener of its three-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference weekend series to the LeTourneau University YellowJackets by a score of 4-2 on Friday evening at the LETU Softball Field inside the Joyce Family Athletic Village.
Longview, Texas - The Centenary softball team dropped the opener of its three-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference weekend series to the LeTourneau University YellowJackets by a score of 4-2 on Friday evening at the LETU Softball Field inside the Joyce Family Athletic Village.
The Ladies (6-10, 6-4 SCAC) and YellowJackets (5-12, 4-9 SCAC) will finish the series with a doubleheader on Saturday at NOON. Admission is FREE to the games.

Freshman P/1B Dixie Williams (Haughton, La.) started in the circle for the Ladies and took the loss as she allowed four runs, all earned, and five hits in three innings with two walks and two strikeouts. Williams (2-1) faced 15 batters, hitting one, and threw 65 pitches – 41 for strikes.
Senior UT Emma Crow (Krotz Springs, La.) relived Williams and went the final three innings and was perfect. She faced nine batters and retired them in order on 20 pitches (14 strikes).
Brooke Bubert (2-5) started and picked up the win for LETU as she allowed just one earned run and two hits in four innings with three BB and four K's. She faced 17 batters, threw three wild pitches, and threw 78 pitches (42 strikes). Laynie Davis pitched the final three innings to earn the save as she allowed only one earned run and scattered five hits with no BB and no K's. She faced 13 batters and threw 38 pitches (21 strikes).
The YellowJackets took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as 2B Rylie Shipp grounded out to score SS Maddie Flanery. LETU then scored three times in the third on a Shipp RBI single that again scored Flanery, an infield single by CF Laila LaCapra, and Jenna Carter scored on a double steal attempt.
Centenary finally got on the board in the top of the fourth as senior SS Catherine Stokes (Natchitoches, La.) drove in sophomore Libby Guidry (Iowa, La.) with a single. Crow had a two-out RBI single in the sixth that scored senior 3B Morgan Dawson (Natchitoches, La.) to make it 4-2 and cut the Ladies' deficit in half. Davis, though, retired the Ladies in order in the seventh to seal the win.
The Ladies finished with two runs on seven hits with no errors, three BB, four K's, and seven left on base. The YellowJackets had four runs on just five hits, no errors, two BB, two K's, and two left on base. Centenary dropped to 1-7 on the road this season while LETU improved to 4-2 at home.
