Ladies Drop Pair Of Games On Friday In Belhaven University Tournament
The Centenary softball team lost a pair of games on day one of the Belhaven University Tournament, falling 10-5 to Hardin-Simmons University and 6-5 to the nationally-ranked and host Belhaven Blazers at McLeod Field.

Game One Recap: Hardin-Simmons 10 Ladies 5
The Ladies finished with nine hits, two walks, three strikeouts, and hit three doubles while playing error-free ball and leaving seven runners on base. The Cowgirls banged out 15 hits, drew four BB and did not strike out. Hardin-Simmons committed one error and left six on base.
Freshman P/INF Haydyn Schexnayder (Egan, La.) started in the circle and fell to 1-2 as she pitched 4.1 innings and allowed three runs, all earned, and eight hits. She did not allow a BB or a K of the 19 batters she faced and threw 47 pitches.
Freshman P/1B Dixie Williams (Haughton, La.) relieved her and lasted 0.2 innings and was charged with three runs, all earned, and three hits with two BB and no K. She faced six batters and threw two wild pitches of her 26 total. Senior P Riley Myers (Shreveport, La.) went an inning and allowed four runs, all earned, on four hits with two BB and no K as she faced nine batters and threw 43 pitches.
Gabby Montanez (2-0) started for Hardin-Simmons and went the distance as she allowed five runs, three earned, and nine hits in her seven innings of work with two BB and three K. She faced 33 batters, threw one wild pitch, and threw 118 pitches.
Senior SS Catherine Stokes (Natchitoches, La.) went 2-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, senior 3B Morgan Dawson (Natchitoches, La.) was 2-4, and senior 1B Abigail Hodgson (Florence, Texas) was 1-2 with an RBI and a BB.
Sophomore C Kaitlynn Alello (Denham Springs, La.) was 1-4 with an RBI and a run, junior 2B Hilary Pillaro (Centerville, La.) was 1-1 with an RBI and a BB, junior CF Noelle Sandmann (Huntsville, Texas) finished 1-4 with a run, and senior RF Emma Crow (Krotz Springs, La.) was 1-3 with a run.
LF Kinzley Cantu led the Cowgirls offensively as she went 4-4 at the top of the lineup with two RBI and two runs scored. 2B Grace Thompson was 2-4 with an RBI, C Addyson Kahklen was 2-4 with two RBI and a run and SS Jazlynn Cantu finished 203 with two runs scored.
RF Ava Dennis went 1-3 with two RBI and a run scored, 3B Madi Hubbard 1-2 with two BB and a run scored, and CF Emily Jacobs 1-3 with an RBI, a BB, and a run scored. DP Bailey Miller and 1B Ella Salinas combined to go 2-7 with an RBI and a run scored.
The Cowgirls took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI double by Jacobs that scored Kinzley Cantu and the Ladies tied it at 1-1 in the top of the third following a sacrifice fly by Pillaro that scored Crow. The Cowgirls, though, scored twice in the bottom half to take a 3-1 lead on RBI singles by Thompson and Salinas.
Senior LF Laine Sullivan (Prairieville, La.) scored on an error in the top of the fourth to cut the deficit to 3-2 but Hardin-Simmons answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 6-2 lead. But the Ladies fought back with three runs of their own in the top of the fifth to get with 6-5. Alello doubled home Sandmann, Stokes doubled to score Alello, and Hodgson brought Stokes home with an RBI single. The Ladies had a chance to tie or take the lead but Montanez got Sullivan to line out to end the inning. The Cowgirls then scored four in the bottom of the fifth to extend the lead to the final margin of 10-5.
Game Two Recap: Belhaven 6 Ladies 5
The Ladies finished with 11 hits but stranded eight runners on base, struck out five times, and made one error as they fell just short to the nationally-ranked Blazers. Belhaven had just six hits, left six on base, and made two errors. The Ladies walked once and the Blazers walked nine times.
Senior P/OF Alexis Roach (Pineville, La.) started in the circle and went two innings and allowed five runs, one earned, on just one hit but walked seven with one K. She faced 14 batters and threw 119 pitches with one wild pitch. Crow relived her and took the loss to fall to 1-2 as she allowed just one earned fun and five hits in 4.1 IP with two BB and one K.
Karley Rouse started for the Blazers and went 5 innings and allowed three runs, two earned, and nine hits with no BB and two K with a pair of wild pitches.
Laura Beth Nesmith relieved her and went 1.1 innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on two hits with one BB and one K. AR Sharp (2-0) got the win as she got the final two outs of the top of the seventh.
Hodgson's RBI single in the top of the first scored Sandmann for a 1-0 lead but the Blazers scored one in the bottom half to tie the game and then added four in the second to lead 5-1.
Three scoreless innings followed until the Ladies scored three times in the sixth to cut their deficit to 5-4. Senior C Jaeden Thrasher (Forney, Texas) had an RBI groundout, Crow had an RBI single, and Pillaro reached on a fielder's choice. Stokes then led off the top of the seventh and Hodgson Moved her to second base. Sharp relieved Nesmith and struck out Dawson for the second out. Sullivan then reached on an error by LF Grace Langston and Stokes scored to tie the game but Sharp struck out senior UT River Boultinghouse (Saint Gabriel, La.) swinging to end the threat and send the game to the bottom of the seventh tied at 5-5.
DP Maryanna Guy singled to lead off the inning and was replaced by Sharp as a pinch-runner. Crow got 2B Emma Moore to strike out but 1B Kaleigh Steverson singled and Sharp moved to second. 3B Ellie Williamson then delivered a walk-off single to score Sharp.
Crow, Sullivan, Pillaro, Dawson, and Stokes all had two hits each and Hodgson had one. Sandmann, Stokes, Dawson, Sullivan, and Boultinghouse all scored runs and Boultinghouse drew the Ladies' lone walk. Williamson led the Blazers' offense as she went 2-2 with an RBI, two BB, and a run scored. CF Reagan Bryan was 1-3 with three RBI, a BB, and a run scored.
