Gents Open SCAC Play On Saturday Night at Home Against Texas Lutheran
The Centenary football team opens Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday evening as the Gents face the Texas Lutheran University Bulldogs with kickoff set for 6 PM at Atkins Field.

Gates will open at 5 PM and fans are encouraged to wear Pink as in recognition and support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Saturday has been designated as a "PINK OUT" and members of the Centenary Zeta Tau Alpha sorority will be present selling pink ribbons at the entry gate.

The Gents (0-3) fell 41-15 last Saturday to the Austin College 'Roos in Sherman, Texas while the Bulldogs (1-3 lost at home to ETBU, 24-21. Centenary is back home for the first time since losing to ETBU, 50-33, on Sept. 20.
"We're excited to be back home and to kick off conference play," said head coach Byron Dawson.
"We must bring our "A" game against a well-coached and talented TLU team. It's going to take maximum effort for 60 minutes. We need all our Centenary fans to show up and cheer loud. Now We Go!"
The Gents raced past Westgate Christian 42-7 on Sept. 6 in their home opener. Texas Lutheran lost its season opener to Trinity University, 26-14, and then fell 28-18 to Howard Payne University before rebounding with a 38-35 win at Southwestern University on Sept. 20.
TLU won both meetings against Centenary last season, 31-8 in Seguin, Texas and 46-23 in Shreveport. The Gents were picked to finish fourth this season in the SCAC Preseason Poll while the Bulldogs were predicted to win the title.
Gents' Individual Season Statistical Leaders:
PASSING: Senior QB/LB Vance Feuerbacher (Plano, Texas) – 78-122 for 873 yards (6 TD and 1 INT)
RECEIVING: Freshman WR Theo Dunn (Gonzales, La.) – 15 catches for 243 yards and 1 TD
RUSHING: Sophomore RB/WR Christopher Jackson (Shreveport, La.) – 21 attempts for 88 yards and 0 TD
TACKLES: Freshman DB TJ Ranson (New Orleans, La.) – 26 total tackles (13 solo) with a team-best 4 TFL
The Gents average 386.7 yards of total offense per game (309.3 passing and 77.3 rushing) and are averaging 20.7 PPG.
Senior QB Zin'Tavious Smith (Coushatta, La.) has 112 yards of total offense with one rushing TD, sophomore RB/WR/LB Devon Strickland (Shreveport, La.) has 16 rushes for 60 yards and has caught 15 passes for 87 yards and a TD. Sophomore RB/WR Josh Williams (Plaucheville, La.) has carried the ball three times this season and caught two passes, senior WR Trent Smith (Shreveport, La.) has 11 catches for 122 yards and 2 TD as he is the Gents' third-leading receiver and tied for the team lead in receiving TD's.
Feuerbacher is also the Gents' leading rusher as he has carried the ball 31 times for 27 yards and two TD's. He has also punted three times for an average of 36.3 yards with two punts landing inside the 20, and has kicked off this season. Freshman K/P Zane Wyss (Shreveport, La.) is 4-4 on PAT's this season and 0-1 on FG attempts.
Senior RB Obadiah Butler (Crowley, La.) returned six kicks for 136 yards, an average of 22.7 YPR, last week against Austin College with a long return of 45 yards. He has a team-high 16 kick returns this season, averaging 23.3 YPR, with a long return of 48 yards.
Sophomore LB Collin Watkins (West Monroe, La.), sophomore Christopher Dade (West Monroe, La.), and freshman DB Seth St. Martin (New Orleans, La.) are all tied for the team lead in interceptions with one each, and freshman DT Jayden Carmouche (Lafayette, La.) and sophomore DL Gideon Bowman (Destrehan, La.) each have one sack to lead the team in that category.
LOOKING AHEAD:
The Gents are at Lyon College next Saturday (3:30 PM) in Batesville, Ark., and they close the month of October at home versus McMurry University (5 PM) for a conference contest on Oct. 25. Centenary will face Hendrix College on Nov. 1 at 6 PM in Conway, Ark. and are back home on Nov. 8 at 6 PM to face the 'Roos of Austin College again to close the regular season.
The SCAC is featuring a new and exciting format for determining its league champion this season as all six schools (Austin College, Centenary, Hendrix, Lyon, McMurry, and TLU) will meet on Nov. 15 in Little Rock, Ark. for championship weekend held at War Memorial Stadium with an exciting day featuring three games - the No. 5 versus the No. 6 seed, the No. 3 seed versus the No. 4 seed, and the top two seeds playing each other.
