Gents Set To Face Warriors On Road Saturday Night

The Gents (1-5, 1-2 SCAC) fell at home last Saturday to McMurry University by a score of 52-6 while the Warriors (4-3, 2-1 SCAC) defeated Lyon College 38-21 at home last Saturday. Centenary's last road game was memorable as the Maroon and White recorded a 23-20 overtime victory over Lyon on Oct. 18 in Batesville, Ark.
"We have a great road challenge ahead against a veteran, talented, and well-coached Hendrix team," said head coach Byron Dawson.
"We need to build on a strong week of practice and eliminate mistakes. The little things will be the key, and we must play 60 minutes of disciplined football in Conway on Saturday."
The Warriors are 3-2 at home this season while the Gents are 1-2 on the road with losses to Millsaps College and Austin College. Hendrix defeated Centenary 43-20 in Shreveport last season.
The Gents are averaging 417.8 yards of total offense per game – 278.8 passing and 139.0 rushing and average 22.4 points per game.
Gents' Individual Season Statistical Leaders:
PASSING: Senior QB/LB Vance Feuerbacher (Plano, Texas) – 101-156 for 1,112 yards (9 TD and 2 INT)
RECEIVING: Freshman WR Theo Dunn (Gonzales, La.) – 32 catches for 504 yards and 5 TD
RUSHING: Senior RB Obadiah Butler (Crowley, La.) – 40 attempts for 418 yards and 3 TD
TACKLES: Freshman DB TJ Ranson (New Orleans, La.) – 41 total tackles (24 solo)
The Gents' defense has registered 31 tackles for loss, nine sacks, four interceptions, and two forced fumbles.
Freshman QB Abram Wardell (Shreveport, La.) made his first collegiate start against the War Hawks last Saturday and completed 28-43 passes for 229 yards and one TD with an interception. Five difference players had at least two catches, led by Butler's 11 and sophomore WR Christopher Jackson (Shreveport, La.) had a career-high 113 yards receiving on a career-best right catches. He averaged 14.1 yards per catch and hauled in a long pass of 33 yards while also carrying the ball twice for four yards. Jackson is the Gents' second-leading receiver this season with 33 catches for 386 yards and has one TD.
Butler also had eight carries and four kickoff returns for 66 yards. He ranks third in the conference in rushing yards per game (69.7) and Dunn ranks fifth in the league in receiving yards per game (84.0).
The Gents will finish their regular season next Saturday at home against Austin College in a conference contest set for 6 Pm at Atkins Field. Centenary will honor its senior class and the cheer team seniors in a pregame ceremony.
Following the regular-season finale, the Gents will head to Little Rock, Ark., as the SCAC is featuring a new and exciting format for determining its league champion this season as all six schools (Austin College, Centenary, Hendrix, Lyon, McMurry, and TLU) will meet on Nov. 15 for championship weekend held at War Memorial Stadium.
The exciting day featuring three games - the No. 5 versus the No. 6 seed (10 AM), the No. 3 seed versus the No. 4 seed (3 PM), and the top two seeds playing each other at 8 PM.
