Gents On Road To Face Lyon College This Weekend

The Gents (0-4, 0-1 SCAC) fell 55-27 to the Texas Lutheran University Bulldogs last Saturday in their conference opener at home. The Scots (1-3, 0-1 SCAC) lost at McMurry University 65-7 in their league opener. Centenary and Lyon met twice last season with the Gents winning both games, 35-14 at home and 28-21 on the road.
Centenary was down 21-14 late in that game in Batesville last season but tied the score with under two minutes to play and then scored the winning touchdown with 15 seconds remaining to record a thrilling comeback victory. The Gents are 0-2 on the road this season with losses at Millsaps College and Austin College while the Scots are 1-1 at home.
"We're excited about our conference road opener," said head coach Byron Dawson.
"Lyon is a well-coached team with a strong veteran roster. For us, the focus must be on the little things like cleaning up the mistakes from last week and playing disciplined, complete football. Our goal is to compete at a high level for 60 minutes."
The Gents are averaging 389.5 yards of total offense per game – 291.8 passing and 97.8 rushing and average 22.3 points per game.
Gents' Individual Season Statistical Leaders:
PASSING: Senior QB/LB Vance Feuerbacher (Plano, Texas) – 101-156 for 1,112 yards (9 TD and 2 INT)
RECEIVING: Freshman WR Theo Dunn (Gonzales, La.) – 24 catches for 370 yards and 3 TD
RUSHING: Senior RB Obadiah Butler (Crowley, La.) – 15 attempts for 159 yards and 1 TD
TACKLES: Freshman DB TJ Ranson (New Orleans, La.) and sophomore LB Collin Watkins (West Monroe, La.) – 34 total tackles each
Feuerbacher is second in the conference in passing yards per game (278.0), Dunn ranks third in receiving yards/game (6.0), and Ranson and Watkins are tied for second in the league in tackles per game (8.5).
Feuerbacher ranks 65th nationally in both passing yards and passing touchdowns and his 11 total TD's are tied for fifth.
A Glance at the Scots:
Chris Douglas is the head coach of Lyon and is in his sixth season at the helm.
Lyon went 1-9 last season and was picked to finish last this season in the conference preseason poll.
The Scots are playing football on campus for the first time in their history in their brand-new stadium, Bad Boy Mowers Stadium.
LOOKING AHEAD:
The Gents close the month of October at home versus McMurry University (5 PM) for a conference contest on Oct. 25. Centenary will face Hendrix College on Nov. 1 at 6 PM in Conway, Ark. and are back home on Nov. 8 at 6 PM to face the 'Roos of Austin College again to close the regular season.
The SCAC is featuring a new and exciting format for determining its league champion this season as all six schools (Austin College, Centenary, Hendrix, Lyon, McMurry, and TLU) will meet on Nov. 15 in Little Rock, Ark. for championship weekend held at War Memorial Stadium with an exciting day featuring three games - the No. 5 versus the No. 6 seed, the No. 3 seed versus the No. 4 seed, and the top two seeds playing each other.
