Gents Fall 41-15 At Austin College On Saturday Night
The Centenary football team could not keep pace with the Austin College 'Roos on Saturday night as the Gents fell 41-15 at Jerry E. Apple Stadium.
Sherman, Texas - The Centenary football team could not keep pace with the Austin College 'Roos on Saturday night as the Gents fell 41-15 at Jerry E. Apple Stadium.
The Gents (0-3) are now 0-2 on the road this season while the 'Roos (1-2) improved to 1-1 at home. The first quarter featured no points but the second period belonged to the 'Roos as they scored 24 points and shut out the Gents to lead 24-0 at halftime. Austin College outscored Centenary 10-7 in the third quarter and the Gents edged the 'Roos 8-7 in the final 15 minutes.
Centenary ran 71 plays for 355 yards of total offense (258 passing and 97 yards rushing) and gained 20 first downs. Austin College ran 72 plays for 508 yards (303 passing and 205 rushing) and finished with 29 first downs.
Gents' Individual Statistical Leaders
PASSING: Junior QB/LB Vance Feuerbacher (Plano, Texas) – 29-50 for 258 yards (1 TD)
RECEIVING: Freshman WR Theo Dunn (Gonzales, La.) – 5 catches for 70 yards
RUSHING: Sophomore RB/WR Christopher Jackson (Shreveport, La.) – 9 attempts for 65 yards
TACKLES: Sophomore LB Collin Watkins (West Monroe, La.) and junior DL D'Qavion Lemons (Shreveport, La.) – 10 total tackles each
Senior WR Trent Smith (Shreveport, La.) scored the Gents' first TD as he caught a 3-yard pass from Feuerbacher with 11:15 remaining in the third quarter to make it 24-7. Smith caught six passes for 39 yards and returned one punt for 14 yards.
Sophomore RB/WR Christopher Jackson (Shreveport, La.), caught a team-high seven passes for 60 yards. Jackson was also the Gents' leading rusher with nine carries for 65 yards with a long rush of 39 yards. Freshman TE Ayden Baker (Bossier City, La.) caught three passes for 19 yards.
Freshman K/P Zane Wyss (Shreveport, La.) kicked off three times for 127 yards and converted his only PAT attempt. Junior DL D'Qavion Lemons (Shreveport, La.) recorded a team-leading 10 total tackles (five solo and five assisted) with a tackle for loss.
The Gents' defense finished with five tackles for loss, a pair of sacks, three pass breakups, two QB hurries, and a forced fumble.
LOOKING AHEAD:
Centenary begins Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play next Saturday, Oct. 11 at home versus Texas Lutheran University with kickoff set for 6 PM at Atkins Field.
The SCAC will feature a new and exciting format for determining its league champion next season as all six schools (Austin College, Centenary, Hendrix, Lyon, McMurry, and TLU) will meet on Nov. 15 in Little Rock, Ark. for championship weekend held at War Memorial Stadium with an exciting day featuring three games - the No. 5 versus the No. 6 seed, the No. 3 seed versus the No. 4 seed, and the top two seeds playing each other.
