SHREVEPORT �- After getting her second double-double of her career on Saturday, freshman Anne Farrell continued her outstanding play on Monday against IPFW. However, in the end it was not enough, as the Ladies fell to the Mastodons, 74-47, in the Gold Dome.
With the lack of depth a poor shooting performance is not what Centenary needed against IPFW. The Ladies made more free throws (6) than field goals (4) in the first half, but still remained in the contest.
Centenary's defense played well in through the first 20 minutes, limiting IPFW to just 40 percent shooting. The Ladies also forced the Mastodons into eight turnovers and held The Summit Leagues leading scorer, Johnna Lewis-Carlisle to just six points.
Leading Centenary's offense was Farrell, who scored four points and grabbed four rebounds. However, the Ladies were still out rebounded 25-19, as Samantha Edwards had a team-high six in the first period.
The second half got off to a much better start for Centenary as it shot 50 percent midway through the period. The Ladies also continued their good defensive play, holding IPFW to 37 percent from the field.
As the half went on, IPFW's offense started to hit its first half stride and connected on 51 percent from the floor and 40 percent from 3-point range. The Ladies still continued to go toe-to-toe with the Mastodons, but the 3-point shot would not fall (2-of-11) relying on inside play.
The Ladies did dominate down low, as they scored 32 points in the paint, compared to IPFW's 20. However, the biggest difference of the night for IPFW was the points off turnover, as it scored 22 points off of Centenary 18 turnovers.
Individually for Centenary, it was led by Farrell, who scored a team-high 16 points and eight rebounds, while sophomore Bethany Joseph added 10. Jordan Zuppe led the Mastodons with 17, while Carlisle-Lewis and Chelsey Jackson chipped in with 15 and 11.
The Ladies will play Western Illinois on Saturday with the tip-off slated to begin at 4 p.m.
