BATON ROUGE, La. - In a close vote the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) has named Centenary women's basketball student-athlete Anne Farrell Freshman of the Year.
The Tulsa, Okla., native edged out Britney Lindsey of Tulane by one vote (7-6), Freda Allen of Southern received four votes, while Tillsha Given (Louisiana College) and Tarkeisha Wysinger (Louisiana Tech) each got one nod.
This season Farrell scored 11.9 points per game, grabbed 7.3 rebounds a contest and scored in double figures 20 times. During the 2007-08 campaign, Farrell scored a career-high 25 points against McNeese State (Dec. 5) and pulled down a season-best 14 rebounds against Sam Houston State (Dec. 31).
Those numbers were also enough for Farrell to be voted Third Team All-LSWA and it is also the first time a Ladies basketball student-athlete garnered Freshman of the Year honors.
