SHREVEPORT- The Centenary women's basketball team and head coach Steve Curtis have announced the signing of 5-foot-8 Chelsea Johnson from Houston to a National Letter of Intent. Johnson is the third to join the Ladies, as Megan Daniel and Natasa Draganic signed in the fall.
Johnson, who has qualified academically, was a McDonald's All-American nominee and was a member of the Greater Houston Area Girls All-Star team. She averaged 16.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists last season.
"I'm excited about coming to Centenary because I like the environment, the community and that the coaching staff really made me feel at home," Johnson said. "I like playing as a team, distributing the ball and driving to score."
Among the other honors earned by Johnson include Academic All District 23-5A, Lady Ranger Tournament MVP, Chronicle Girls 'Athlete of the Week,' and two-time All-District 23-5A first team member.
"I am pleased that Chelsea is going to be a part of the Centenary women's basketball program," said Curtis. "She is an outstanding young lady and an excellent basketball player who has such a strong upside to her future."
