SHREVEPORT�- The Centenary baseball team swept a Saturday afternoon double header -- winning game one 3-2 and topping the Panthers in the second game 6-1.
Game One
Senior Steele Lewis knocked in the game winning RBI on a ground out, which scored senior Ricky Imperiali, who had reached base earlier in the inning on a single. Junior Michael Tompkins knocked in a run in both the first and fifth innings to pick up the other Gents' RBIs.
Earning his first start in a Centenary uniform was sophomore Stephen Tromblee, who went 5.2 innings in which he scattered two hits, allowed two unearned runs, walked two and fanned six. Earning his second win of the season after pitching 3.1 innings in relief was senior Chris LaLonde. LaLonde allowed just two hits, while walking two and fanning two more.
Game Two
The Gents knocked in five runs to take a big lead in the third inning and never looked back. The scoring rally began with a two RBI single hit by junior Travis Leversen, scoring freshman Morgan Brian, who had reached earlier on a single and senior Tim Deering who reached on a walk.
On the mound for the Gents was sophomore Justin Kraft, who pitched a complete game allowing just one run on six hits, while only walking one and striking out five. Centenary chased UNI starting pitcher Colin Rea after just 3.2 innings, as he allowed five runs, five walks and only one strike out.
The Gents will take the field Sunday afternoon starting at 12 pm to wrap up the four game series against Northern Iowa.
