Women's Basketball Selected as "Team of the Week"
The Centenary women's basketball team has been selected as Centenary Athletics' "Team of the Week" after the Ladies defeated the Mississippi University for Women (MUW) Owls 70-67 last Thursday in Columbus, Miss. for their first win of the season.
Shreveport - The Centenary women's basketball team has been selected as Centenary Athletics' "Team of the Week" after the Ladies defeated the Mississippi University for Women (MUW) Owls 70-67 last Thursday in Columbus, Miss. for their first win of the season.
The Ladies (1-3) went 1-2 last week as they lost 78-53 to Millsaps College on Friday in Jackson, Miss. The Ladies gave first-year head coach Rennie Bailey his first victory as head coach of the Maroon and White with Thursday's win over the Owls. Centenary lost a tough 59-52 home game to Jarvis Christian at home on Monday night.
Senior F Layla Powell (Fort Worth, Texas) had an impressive week for the Ladies as she started all three of their games and averaged 32 minutes and 10 PPG. She had a pair of double-figure scoring games with 10 points against Jarvis Christian and a season-high 13 against Millsaps as Powell finished the week with 12 rebounds, six steals, five assists, seven treys, and went 7-9 at the free-throw line.
Freshman G Nakaylyn Wells (Nacogdoches, Texas) had a pair of double-digit scoring performances and averaged 9.7 PPG in the Ladies' three games last week. She added 15 assists, 15 rebounds, and four steals.
The Ladies return to action on Tuesday with another non-conference contest at home against Arlington Baptist University set for 6 PM in the Gold Dome.
