Centenary Athletics: Weekend Preview - April 2-4
Another busy weekend is upon us as four teams will be in action, three on the road and one at home.

Softball is the only squad at home as the Ladies will face nationally-ranked Texas Lutheran University in a three-game series in Southern Collegiate Athletic play at the Centenary Softball Complex. The Ladies are an impressive 10-2 at home this season.
Baseball will be in Seguin, Texas to face Texas Lutheran and the men's and women's track & field teams will compete in the Carl Knight Lumberjack Invitational, hosted by Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas.
The Ladies (14-12, 12-6 SCAC) took two of three last weekend at Austin College which included an 18-4 run-rule win in five innings on Friday before splitting a doubleheader on Saturday.
Centenary's loss in game one of the DH snapped its season-high eight-game winning streak, but the Ladies tied the Division III era (2012-present) program record for conference wins in a season on Friday and the Ladies' 18 runs are the most in a SCAC game since also scoring 18 against Austin College on March 16, 2023.
Texas Lutheran, ranked fifth in the NFCA/GoRout Division III Top 25 Softball Coaches Poll, enter this weekend's play at 24-3 overall and 16-1 in SCAC play. The series begins on Thursday with a single game at 5 PM and concludes on Friday with a DH at NOON.
The Ladies were picked to finish fifth in the conference preseason poll. The 2026 SCAC Softball Tournament will be held May 1-3 in Abilene, Texas and hosted by McMurry University. The top six teams in the standings at the conclusion of the regular season qualify for the event. The Ladies have now made nine-consecutive SCAC Tournament appearances. Centenary sits in fourth place entering the weekend.
The Diamond Gents (13-15, 8-10 SCAC) won a home series last weekend over Austin College, taking the series opener 5-3 last Friday night and split a doubleheader on Saturday, falling 14-7 in game one and rebounding with an emphatic 18-2 run-rule win in seven innings in game two at Shehee Stadium. The Diamond Gents aim to improve upon their 7-11 road record this season against the Bulldogs this weekend.
Texas Lutheran (19-7, 14-4 SCAC) is atop of the conference standings and are ranked 24th nationally in the latest ABCA NCAA Division III Baseball Coaches Poll. The series will begin on Thursday with a DH at 1 PM and conclude on Friday with a single game set for 1 PM.
Centenary was picked to finish sixth in the SCAC Preseason poll this season. The 2026 SCAC Baseball Tournament will be held at The Depot at Cleburne Station in Cleburne, Texas as the double-elimination tournament will begin on April 30 and will feature six teams. The Diamond Gents are currently in eighth place in the conference standings.
The men's and women's track & field teams are set for two days of action in the Carl Knight Lumberjack Invitational on Thursday and Friday in Nacogdoches, Texas.
Centenary completed its fourth meet of the season and closed the month of March this past Saturday in the Leon Johnson NSU Invitational in Natchitoches. Freshman Ian Hunter (Princeton, Texas) earned a pair of runner-up finishes in the 3000m Steeplechase (11:30.92) and 5000 meter run (19:14.27) as his time in the Steeplechase is a personal best and sophomore Gabrielle Malagarie (Lafayette, La.) highlighted the Ladies' efforts with a fourth-place finish in the high jump (4-11.75).
The Gents' team of Jay Scott, freshman Malcolm Pierce (Ruston, La.), freshman Zack Wroten (Benton, La.), and freshman Theo Dunn (Gonzales, La.) earned a second-place finish in the 4 x 400 meter relay (3:30.95). Pierce led the way in the 400 meters as he was sixth with a personal-best time of 51.23 and Scott was seventh (21-8.75) in the long jump. Scott was selected the SCAC Men's Co-Track Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.
The 2026 SCAC Men's and Women's Track & Field Championships will be held April 24-26 in Abilene, Texas and hosted by McMurry University.
