Baseball And Softball Share "Team of the Week" Honor

Shreveport – The Centenary baseball and softball team have each been selected as Centenary Athletics' "Team of the Week".
The Diamond Gents and Ladies each recorded a series win over McMurry University in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play, with baseball taking two of three on the road and softball winning the series at home.
The Diamond Gents (17-17, 12-12 SCAC) continued their impressive play in Abilene, Texas as they swept a doubleheader on Friday, winning game one by a score of 6-4 and game two 11-1. The War Hawks salvaged the final game of the series on Saturday, winning 6-4.
Sophomore RHP Treyson Martin (Huffman, Texas) had a superb weekend on the mound as he was the winning pitcher in both games of a doubleheader sweep on Friday, highlighted by his first-career complete game in game two of the twin bill. Martin worked a total of 11 IP and allowed just one earned run and six hits with two walks and six strikeouts. He came on in relief in game one of the DH and went the final two innings and tossed a pair of scoreless, hitless frames. In his CG he recorded a career-best six strikeouts in a career-high nine innings. Martin was named the SCAC Pitcher of the Week on Monday.
Centenary is back home this weekend to face the University of St. Thomas (12-19, 11-13 SCAC) in a three-game series. The series begins on Friday with a doubleheader set for 1 PM. The game date and time for game three of the series is TBD.
The Ladies (16-16, 14-10 SCAC) won their series after recording a doubleheader sweep on Friday, winning game one by a score of 9-6 and rallying from a 5-0 deficit in game to win in walk-off fashion 6-5 in eight innings in game two. McMurry won 6-4 on Saturday to escape with one win in the series. Centenary honored its nine seniors in a postgame ceremony on Saturday.
Senior 1B Abigail Hodgson (Florence, Texas) had a stellar weekend at the plate in her final home series of her career as she went 7-11 (.636) with a .667 OBP and slugged .818. Hodgson had a whopping seven RBI in the series along with two doubles, a BB, and a run scored. She began the series on a high note as she had a single-game career best four hits in a 9-6 win as she finished 4-4 at the plate with three RBI and a run scored. Hodgson was named the SCAC Hitter of the Week on Monday.
The Ladies are on the road this weekend to face the nationally-ranked University of St. Thomas Celts in a three-game league series in Houston. St. Thomas (24-7, 22-2 SCAC) is ranked 13th in the current NFCA/GoRout Division III Top 25 Coaches Poll.
