Centenary Athletics: Weekend Preview - April 10-12
It has been said before but it is true … Another busy weekend is upon us as five teams will be in action, with three on the road and two at home.
Shreveport – It has been said before but it is true … Another busy weekend is upon us as five teams will be in action, with three on the road and two at home.
Make that six teams if you count Men's Golf as the Gents return to the course on Monday in the West Region Invitational in Whitney, Texas but will prep during the weekend for its tournament action.
Softball and Lacrosse are both at home as the Ladies will face McMurry University in a crucial three-game series in Southern Collegiate Athletic play at the Centenary Softball Complex in what is their final home series of the season.
The Gents will also be at home for the final time this season as they will face Rhodes College on Saturday at Atkins Field (3 PM).
Baseball will be in Abilene, Texas to face McMurry and the men's and women's track & field teams will compete in the Bryan Phillips Invitational on Saturday hosted by Harding University in Searcy, Ark.
BASEBALL
The Diamond Gents won their conference series over the nationally-ranked and conference-leading Texas Lutheran University Bulldogs in Seguin, Texas last weekend.
Centenary (15-16, 10-11 SCAC) swept a doubleheader last Thursday, winning game one 5-4 in dramatic fashion and rallying from an early deficit to win 10-6 in game two against the Bulldogs. TLU salvaged the series finale on Friday, 7-5. The Bulldogs were ranked 20th in the D3baseball.com/NCBWA Top 25 poll and 24th in the ABCA NCAA Division III Baseball Coaches Poll.
The series this weekend against the War Hawks (13-15, 11-11 SCAC) begins on Friday with a DH at 1 PM and concludes on Saturday at 1 PM.
The 2026 SCAC Baseball Tournament will be held at The Depot at Cleburne Station in Cleburne, Texas as the double-elimination tournament will begin on April 30 and will feature six teams. The Diamond Gents are currently in eighth place in the conference standings but just a half game behind McMurry for the final spot.
SOFTBALL
The Ladies (14-15, 12-9 SCAC) aim to get back on track after being swept by the nationally-ranked Texas Lutheran Bulldogs last weekend at home.
Centenary lost the series opener 9-1 last Thursday and were swept in a DH on Friday, falling 13-0 in five innings in game one and 5-0 in game two.
The Ladies' series this weekend against McMurry is indeed a critical one in the race for one of the six coveted spots in the conference tournament. The Ladies and War Hawks (13-16-1, 12-12 SCAC) will play a DH on Friday at 4 PM and a single game on Saturday at NOON with the Senior Day ceremony after the game.

The 2026 SCAC Softball Tournament will be held May 1-3 in Abilene, Texas and hosted by McMurry University. The top six teams in the standings at the conclusion of the regular season qualify for the event. The Ladies are in fourth place in the standings while the War Hawks are fifth.
LACROSSE
The Gents (10-2) will face Rhodes on Saturday in their final home game of the season. Centenary, 5-1 at home this season, was last in action on March 21 with an 18-10 win over Hanover College. Rhodes is 7-5 on the season.
The Gents are in the midst of their most successful season in program history and have led the country in nearly all offensive categories. Centenary has scored a whopping 236 goals, tallied 142 assists, and totaled 378 points.

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD
The men's and women's track and field teams completed the final day of competition in the Carl Knight Lumberjack Invitational last Friday, hosted by Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas.
Sophomore Gabrielle Malagarie (Lafayette, La.) finished 16th in the high jump (4-10.25) and sophomore Grayson Shugart (McKinney, Texas) was 20th in the 400 meters with a personal-best time of 1:03.09.
Sophomore Dwayne Mills Jr. (Slidell, La.) finished 22nd in the 100-meter run (10.94) and sophomore Cameron Hobley (Coushatta, La.) was 41st with a personal-best 11.31.
Freshman Zack Wroten (Benton, La.) was 36th in the 400-meter run (51.05), junior Bryan Washington (Wylie, Texas) was 38th with a season-best 52.14, and sophomore Clayton Hancock (Buna, Texas) finished 42nd (52.45).
On Thursday, day one of the meet, freshman Ian Hunter (Princeton, Texas) ran a personal-best time of 4:46.85 in the 1500-meter run and freshman Michael Cunningham (Carencro, La.) threw a 143' 06" in the discus.
Sophomore Dwayne Mills Jr. (Slidell, La.) finished 21st in the long jump (19-08.00) and sophomore Chaz Smith (Prairieville, La.) was 25th (17-01.25). Gabrielle Malagarie finished 22nd in the long jump (14-02.25).
The 2026 SCAC Men's and Women's Track & Field Championships will be held April 24-26 in Abilene, Texas and hosted by McMurry.
