LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Approaching its first season in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, the Centenary baseball team has been selected second in the league, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday afternoon.
The Gents picked up a pair of the conference's five first-place votes (20 total points). The Maroon and White finished the 2011 season with a record of 24-15 in its final campaign in the American Southwest Conference.
Trinity was tabbed the preseason favorite to win the 2013 SCAC baseball championship picking up the three remaining first-place nods (23 total points). The University of Dallas (15 points) was selected third followed by Southwestern University (12 points) and Austin College (5 points) to complete the SCAC preseason rankings.
Centenary opens the 2013 campaign on Friday, Feb. 8 against East Texas Baptist. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the McKinney Ranch Complex in Dallas, Texas. The lid-lifter is part of a three-day trip for the Gents who will face Louisiana College at 2p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9 and Williamette University at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 10.
