SHREVEPORT, La - The Centenary baseball team returns to the diamond this weekend hosting two games verses conference foe Southwestern University. The contests take place Saturday and Sunday, Mar. 23-24th at 1 p.m.
Centenary enters the weekend having dropped three of its last six games, including a heartbreaking 5-4 lost against North Central College on Wednesday. The Gents surrendered four runs in the ninth inning.
The Gents (16-7, 9-3 SCAC) have done well in the Southern Collegiate Athletics Conference play, claiming four straight series in a row. Southwestern (2-24, 0-12 SCAC) enters having dropped its last eight. The Pirates last time out fell 8-7 in 10 innings at Texas Lutheran. Centenary swept the Black and Gold earlier this season 13-3, 16-4, and 19-9 on the road.
Over the past six games, Craig Littleman is hitting around .400 (10-24) and has seven RBI. On the season he is second in batting average at .413 and leads in extra base hits with 15. Tyler Clakley is the other Gent batting over .300 at a .322 clip. Christian Sebastien and Clakley lead the Maroon and White in RBI with 20 apiece.
Centenary continues receiving strong performances on the mound, with a starter going at least 6.0 innings or more in the last six games. Jake McFarland (6.2 innings), Holden Novak (7 innings), and Paul Arecement (7.2 innings) pitched the doubleheader against Texas College and North Central, respectively.
Layton Tromba (3-2) continues to lead the Gents staff in innings pitched with 41.2 with Cole Thompson (2-0) not far behind at 40.0 innings. Tromba leads in complete games with five, while Thompson has two.
Centenary begins a six-game road trip over the next week. First up will be non-conference foe LeTourneau University on Tuesday, Mar. 26th at 6 p.m. followed by a two-game set at Trinity on Mar. 28-29th.
