SHREVEPORT, La. - The 25th-ranked Centenary baseball team took its fifth contest from Southwestern with a 14-2 decision on Sunday afternoon at Shehee Stadium. The victory improves the Gents to 18-7 overall and 11-3 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action.
Cole Thompson recorded his third win on the season with a complete-game performance. The Plano, Texas, native allowed just one earned run on five hits in the outing with a pair of strikeouts and three walks in the affair.
Matt Creamer led a quartet of Gents with multiple hits, recording three on the day, including a double in the fourth inning that scored two of the Maroon and White's nine runs in the inning. The Shreveport, La., product finished the game with four RBI.
Tyler Clakley, Nic Parrott and Jemari James each tallied two hits on the afternoon while Clakley pushed three runs across the dish.
Of the Gents' 13 hits on the day, four stretched for extra bases.
After SU nipped the Gents advantage to within a run in the top of the fourth, Centenary responded tying its largest inning, run total on the season to increase its lead to double digits. The nine-run inning tied the mark set by the Gents at Southwestern on Feb. 16 in the seventh frame.
The Maroon and White added two runs in the fifth and sixth to insure the conference leading 11th win of the season.
Joe McCormack (0-5) tossed 3.1 innings in the loss for the Pirates allowing 10 runs - nine earned - 10 hits with three strikeouts and a trio of walks. Kendall Henkes, Carl Mueller and Nino Tutino combined for the final 2.2 innings of work for the Black and Gold.
Centenary returns to action on Tuesday, Mar. 26 as the Gents travel to LeTourneau for a midweek affair. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
