SHREVEPORT, La. - The Centenary baseball team prepares for its final home, conference matchup of the season with two games Apr. 13-14 at 1 p.m. against Austin College. Sunday's matinee at 1 p.m. will also be senior day; with six players being recognized following the game.
The Gents (25-8, 13-3 SCAC) most recently dropped their first series of the year to No.11 UT-Tyler on the road. They fell in the opener 7-4, took game two 6-3, and dropped the finale 8-5. The Maroon and White have had success in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, winning its last five games and nine of the last 10 to stake claim to the top spot in the league.
Jemari James and Craig Littleman continue to lead the top two spots in the SCAC with a .412 and .404 respectively. Also boasting a .300 or higher batting average is Tyler Clakley, who sits just outside the top five at .358.
Littleman and Clakley are among the top five in the league in RBI with Clakley in second at 35, and Littleman in third with 30 on the season.
Cole Thompson, who was named SCAC Pitcher of the Week, also ranks second in the league in innings pitched at 61.2, and has thrown four complete games, including last Saturday's win at UT-Tyler. He also is third in the league in strikeouts, fanning 47 batters.
The Gents also rank second in the league in hitting at a .304 clip and pitching with a 3.47 ERA; only trailing Trinity.
Austin College (10-25, 7-10 SCAC) have dropped its last three, including a 7-6 defeat to Ozarks on Tuesday. Centenary leads the season series 2-1 after taking the first two of three on the road earlier this year.
The seniors being recognized include: Matt Creamer, Tyler Clakley, Ryan Gasporra, Cole Thompson, Craig Littleman, and Jemari James.
Centenary concludes the home portion of its schedule next week hosting LSU-Shreveport Wednesday, Apr. 17 at 6 p.m.
