IRVING, Texas - For the first time this season the Centenary baseball team has dropped three straight contests following 1-0 decision at the University of Dallas on Sunday afternoon. Centenary falls to 24-12 overall and 15-5 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play. UD improves to 18-21 and 12-8.
In a pitcher's duel that witnessed a combined eight hits between the two squads, the Crusaders logged the only run of the contest as Matt Farris drove a single into right field to score Trevor Keele for the difference in the contest.
Layton Tromba (6-4) tossed eight innings in the losing effort as he fanned six batters while allowing four hits and two walks.
Keifer Moore registered the only multiple hit performance for the Maroon and White with a pair of singles. His first came in the third inning becoming the first Gents' base knock of the game and only the second to reach base in the contest. Moore added his second hit in the eighth inning.
Ryan Gasporra recorded the only extra base hit for Centenary with a double in the ninth inning as Jemari James added a single in the fourth frame.
Martin Cronin tallied the win on the mound - his second of the season - holding Centenary to three hits and a walk while sitting down three batters. Joshua Crapps picked up the save with one inning in relief while allowing a hit and a strikeout.
Sterling Maness, Mark Carlson and Alex Thornton each joined Farris with hits in the contest for the Blue and White.
Centenary concludes its regular season on Tuesday, Apr. 23 at cross-town foe Louisiana State University-Shreveport. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
