Sherman, Texas - The Centenary baseball team claimed the weekend series with a 10-7 victory at Austin College Sunday afternoon. The Gents (15-5, 9-3) have won seven of their last ten while Austin College fell to 8-19 and 6-6 in conference.
Craig Littleman, Tyler Clakley, and Ryan Gasporra had multi-hit games; led by Littleman with four hits and three RBI. Clakely had three hits and two RBI with Gasporra chipping in two base knocks. Littleman and Clakley also recorded the only extra base hits for the Maroon and White combining for three triples, with Littleman picking up two. Christian Sebastian and Marc Martinez also picked up hits on the afternoon and Sebastian contributed two RBI.
Centenary opened the first with a four-run inning highlighted by Clakley's two out RBI triple to plate Gasporra and Jemari James. Sebastian added an RBI single to bring in Clakley. The Roos answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame to cut the deficit in half.
The Gents extended the lead with a three-run third inning that began with Clakley scoring on a passed ball. With Kiefer Moore advancing to second on the previous play, Littleman knocked an RBI triple and then scored a batter later on an RBI groundout by Sebastian.
Up 7-3 in the sixth, the Maroon and White seemed to put the game out of reach with another pair of runs due to a few AU miscues. The Roos had three errors in the contest.
Austin didn't go quietly responding in the bottom of the sixth with three runs. Colt Herron's homerun in the bottom of the ninth concluded the scoring for the Roos.
Cole Thompson (2-0) was the winning pitcher and went the distance pitching 9.0 innings. He surrendered seven runs on 14 hits, while walking none and striking out 10.
Mychael Parrish (0-4) got saddled with the loss allowing seven runs on five hits and walking two through 2.0 innings. Kyle Wells, Connor Berry, and Blaine Tew all saw action on the bump for the Roos.
Centenary opens up a six game home stand beginning with a doubleheader verses non-conference foe Texas College with first pitch at 4 p.m.
