CLEVELAND, Miss. - Zander Winston and Hank Strickler led Centenary to a top-5 finish in the Gents season debut at the Derrall Foreman Invitational Friday and Saturday.
Strickler and Winston tied for 13th individually, each firing an even-par 144. Strickler opened with a two-under 71 Friday, four strokes ahead of Winston before Winston posted a three-under 69 to close the tournament, helping Centenary to a fifth-place finish in the nine-team field.
Union University (Tenn.) won the tournament with a tournament-record 34-under (270-272 - 542). Union's Brett Barry set a tournament record with a 9-under 63 Sunday, closing the tournament with a 67 Saturday. He beat teammate Ben Waits and Delta State's Cameron Thomas by six strokes. Waits and Thomas posted identical scores of 70-66-136. Union accounted for four of the top seven finishers, winning the tournament by 18 strokes over Delta State.
Centenary's Andres Forese and Jamie Gibson tied for 24th at six-over-par, 150, three strokes ahead of Matt Delaney (75-78 -151). Gibson fired a 73 Friday, three better than Forese's 76. Forese's 74 Saturday evened the mark as Gibson carded a 77.
The Gents return to the course Oct. 1 in Tyler at the Cascades Golf Club.
