SHREVEPORT, La. - The Centenary men's and women's golf teams each finished third at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships held at Southern Trace Golf Course in Shreveport, La., over the weekend.
The Gents used a 5-0 win over the University of Dallas on Sunday afternoon to secure third. The win comes on the heels of the Maroon and White falling 4-1 to Trinity University on Saturday afternoon. Zander Winston stood as the lone Gent to record wins in both match play contests.
Hank Strickler fought to a tie after the first 18 holes, but came up on the short end on the 19th to drop the tiebreaker for the Gents in the decision on Saturday against the Tigers.
After the first round, the Ladies stood third with a score of 345 - just three strokes back of Trinity in second. Southwestern led the pack with a team score of 330 after the first 18 holes.
Jamie Wright led the entire event for the Maroon and White with a score of 85 that placed her in eighth place following the first day. Her score of 80 placed her in a tie for fourth with a teammate Justine Kemp with a two-day total of 165.
Sarah Bradshaw shot a first day total of 88 to finish in a tie for 12th and finished tied for 13th with a score of 173 following her 85 on day two. Rachel Grinnell posted a two-day score of 178 in 15th place after completing the first round with a score of 86 and tied with Kemp. Kylee Goldthorn improved upon her first day score of 99 with an 84 on day two and a 16th place finish and total of 183.
SU's Kelsey Coburn led the way after the first round with a score of 81, but finished third at the conclusion of the event with a score of 164 - two strokes back of the top spot and Brigette Lee from Trinity.
Trinity claimed the conference championship on the men's side with a 3-2 victory over SU. The Pirates claimed the top spot on the women's side with a score of 659.
