SHREVEPORT, La. - Centenary College of Louisiana has become the seventh school in the state of Louisiana to hold a charter in Chi Alpha Sigma - the National College Athlete Honor Society - and the inductees were honored on Monday night at the annual athletics' banquet.
The group was founded at DePauw University on May 17, 1996, as a student-athlete honor society for the recognition of high academic achievers and letter winners at the collegiate level, and Centenary joins the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, the University of Louisiana at Monroe, Louisiana State University, the University of New Orleans, Southern University and A&M, and Xavier University of Louisiana as schools in the state with chapters on campus.
An invitation to membership is based upon several criteria. The prospective student-athlete must have achieved junior standing and a cumulative grade point average of 3.40 or higher. An endorsement from the head coach is required and the student-athlete must also be recommended for membership by the chapter advisor.
