Salisbury, N.C. - The BC Tornados couldn't top the Catawba College Indians in their first South Atlantic Conference road match of the season, falling in four sets 25-14, 21-25, 25-17, 25-23.
After dropping the first set, BC rebounded with a 25-21 win in the second set to even the match at 1-1. The Tornados picked up 13 kills in the second set as Fatima Gharachorloo and Joy Oswalt both had four kills. Oswalt also added two service aces in the second set, and finished the night with 11 kills at a .435 hitting percentage.
Conner led the Tornados in the kill department with 12, while Gharachorloo finished with 10. Kayla Hanus recorded 42 set assists and 19 digs for BC.
The Tornados dropped the third set, but battled the Indians point-for-point in the fourth set. The Tornados led 15-14 in the set, but weren't able to force a fifth set. A late 3-0 run brought Brevard within a point at 24-23, but a kill by Abby Pennington sealed the win for Catawba.
Senior Kaitlyn Whitmer led the Indians with 23 kills at a hitting percentage of .426.
BC is back in action on Tuesday, September 25th when they visit the Wingate University Bulldogs at 7 p.m.
