Whiting earns his second LSWA honor this season after helping the Gents to a 4-1 series-opening win at Oakland last weekend. The Oakdale, Calif. native, worked 7.2 innings, allowing no earned runs on just four hits and two walks.
In the win, Whiting fanned 11 Golden Grizzly batters, notching his fourth game this season where he has retired 11 hitters. The junior right-hander has worked at least 7.0 innings in his last five starts and has recorded a 2-0 record in Summit League play, while improving to 4-1 overall.
Whiting paces the Centenary squad with a team-low 2.61 ERA and 80 strikeouts in 58.2 innings of work as the Gents Game 1 starter.
"Boone is a special individual. Our team has a chance to win every time he takes the mound for us," said head coach Ed McCann.
Centenary will host Northwestern State tonight at 6:35 pm at Shehee Stadium before traveling to South Dakota State this weekend for a four-game league set.
