The junior compiled a 6-2 record and 3.21 ERA on the year with a league-leading 120 strikeouts in 84.0 innings pitched. His 12.86 strikeouts per innings pitched was one of the tops in the nation. He also collected one save and had one complete game in 14 appearances on the year.
In league games, Whiting had 62 strikeouts and posted a perfect 4-0 record to lead the league in both categories. The Oakdale, Calif., native was also named Summit League Pitcher of the Year, along with capturing first team all-league honors.
In addition, Whiting was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 18th round of the 2010 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft on Tuesday. He was the 559th overall selection.
Of the 301 teams around the country and approximately 12,000 collegiate baseball players, Whiting was one of 102 notable young players making up the three All-American teams.
