BATON ROUGE, La.-Centenary's Boone Whiting was tabbed as Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) Pitcher of the Week after tossing a seven-inning gem against league foe, Oral Roberts, last Friday.
Whiting earns his third LSWA Pitcher of the Week honor this season and improved to 6-1 with the weekly win.
The right-hander recorded a season-best 12 strikeouts against the Golden Eagles and shattered the career-strikeout record at Centenary, taking over the all-time spot with 229 strikeouts in just his third season as a Gent.
He allowed just one earned run over 7.0 innings on six scattered hits with 12 strikeouts for his first complete game of the season. Centenary went on to win, 11-1 in seven innings over the defending league champions.
In just 74.0 innings pitched, the Oakdale, Calif., native has fanned 103 hitters, while maintaining a team-low 3.16 ERA.
