ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Centenary softball team pounded out seven hits, but an error to lead-off the fifth inning was enough for Oakland to pull out a 2-1 Summit League win on Friday evening.
After giving up a run in the third, the Ladies (28-16, 11-4) answered back with a score in the fourth, as freshman Vicki Honeycutt crossed the plate on a wild pitch. However, the game wouldn't stay tied for long as Oakland put the winning run on the board in the fifth.
The Golden Grizzlies (15-24, 8-11) began the fifth by reaching base on a fielding error, as Caitlin Lynch made it to first before the throw. Lynch was lifted for Angela Cicchini, who later scored on a single by Katie Dreyer.
Centenary and Oakland will play the rubber game on Saturday afternoon beginning at 11 a.m. central time. Live stats are available for viewing on www.OUGrizzlies.com.
