SHREVEPORT - The Centenary softball team scored twice in the fifth to bring the game within three, but an insurance run by Tulsa put the game out of reach, as the Ladies were downed 6-2 on Wednesday evening.
After allowing two early runs, sophomore Lauren Highsmith seemed to have settled down, but in the fourth Tulsa scored three times to go by five. Centenary (17-10) though did have fight left in them, as freshmen Kalyn Harris and Jenny Varterssian each drove in a run.
In the sixth, Tulsa's (16-8) first two batters reached base, which allowed them to put the insurance run on the board. The Ladies tried to put one last rally together in the seventh with two-on and one-out, but the Golden Hurricane turned a game-ending double play.
Taking the loss for Centenary was Highsmith (0-1), who went 3.1 innings, allowed four runs on nine hits, walked one and struck out two. Jackie Lawrence got the win after pitching a complete game two hitter.
The Ladies will try to bounce back on Thursday against Texas A&M Corpus Christi in a single game starting at 2 p.m. The game can be heard on www.GoCentenary.com with the pregame show starting at 1:55 p.m.
