SHREVEPORT- Sophomore Bonnie Matak had three hits, while junior Haley Bassett also had a multi hit game, but the Centenary softball team fell to Southern Utah 1-0 in 11 innings on Saturday afternoon in Summit League play.
One of the Ladies' best chances to score came in the third when Matak and senior Allison McClain each had singles, but the threat was ended with the next batter grounding out. Centenary (29-19, 12-7) and another opportunity in the 10th when Matak had a two-out double and sophomore Caitlin Cavarra reached after being plunked, but the Ladies couldn't come around to score.
SUU (21-28, 11-10) in its 11th inning at-bat had two straight singles with one out, and freshman Hillary Phillips seemed to have killed the threat when she got the second out. But after a walk to load the bases, Caroline Fernandez blooped a ball into right field for the game-winning RBI.
Phillips went 11 innings allowed one run on nine hits, walked two and struck out five, while her counterpart Kristina Brooks also pitched a complete game, but struck out 12 Centenary batters.
The Ladies will next see action at home on Wednesday against I-49 rival Northwestern State in a doubleheader beginning at 4:30 p.m. Centenary will then close the regular season at North Dakota State on Friday.
