SHREVEPORT - Sophomore Caitlin Cavarra and junior Allison Shepperd each drove in two runs for the Centenary softball team, as the Ladies were 5-4 winners over I-20 rival Louisiana-Monroe on Wednesday night.
After spotting ULM (3-7) a 3-0 lead in the third, Centenary (9-2) bounced back to put four runs on the board in the bottom half of the same inning. After getting the first two runners on, the Ladies played small ball and advanced both Vicki Honeycutt and Bonnie Matak with a sacrifice bunt by Emerald Doria.
The bunt proved to be big, as Cavarra singled to right to drive both runners in and get Centenary within one. Shepperd followed Cavarra then sat dead red to homer down the left field line to give the Ladies a lead for good.
For extra measure in the sixth, freshman Lindsey Smith hit her fourth home run in as many games to the scoreboard in right.
Pitching for the Ladies was sophomore Jessica Bock (5-1), who threw a complete game and pick up her fifth win of the season. Bock gave up six hits, allowed four runs, walked three and struck out six.
Centenary will next see action on Feb. 24 at Central Florida and then will play in the Stetson Tournament on Feb. 27-28. The Ladies will return home on March 3 when they host Grambling at 6 p.m.
