Ladies Fall To Howard Payne In Home Opener 4-0

Shreveport - The Centenary women's soccer team fell 4-0 to the Howard Payne University Lady Jackets in a non-conference match and the Ladies' home opener on Sunday afternoon at Atkins Field.
The Ladies (0-2) opened their season on Friday with a 5-0 loss at Belhaven University Blazers in Jackson, Miss. The Lady Jackets improved to 2-1 with the win and now lead the all-time series with the Ladies by a 5-0 count, winning previous matches in 2011, 2014, 2022, 2023.
The match was scoreless at the half and until the 55th minute when Alayna Lopez scored an unassisted goal to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. Just over a minute later, Sarah Krusing made it 2-0 with Lopez assisting.
Roughly five minutes later, Madelynn Harry scored an unassisted goal for a 3-0 lead and Lopez capped the scoring with her second goal of the match, assisted by Brenna Douthit, to make it 4-0 in the 87th minute.
Howard Payne finished with a decisive 17-3 advantage in shots and had 11 shots on goal to the Ladies' two. Each team took two corner kicks and the teams combined for 11 fouls with seven whistled on the Ladies and four on the visitors.
Freshman GK Gracie Rellin (Haughton, La.) went the distance in goal for the Ladies and made seven saves. Landry Combs started in goal for Howard Payne and picked up the win with two saves as she played the first 62:33 and Peyton Mueller came in and finished the match, playing the final 27:27.
The Ladies will continue their seven-game homestand next weekend when they return to action versus the Wiley University Wildcats on Friday at 5 p.m.
