Gents Fall Friday Night At TLU 3-0

Seguin, Texas - The Centenary men's soccer team was blanked 3-0 by the Texas Lutheran University Bulldogs in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference match on Friday night at Gustafson Field.
The Gents (7-7-2, 5-4 SCAC) fell behind the conference-leading Bulldogs (9-4-2, 7-1-1 SCAC) by a score of 2-0 at halftime and allowed one second-half goal to lose their second match in a row after also being shutout 3-0 at home on Sunday against Hendrix College. Centenary is now 2-5-1 on the road this season while TLU improved to 7-1-1 at home.
The Bulldogs took an early lead as Jesus Carrillo scored in the 11th minute, assisted by Evan Pacheco, to make it 1-0. Max Guzman scored in the 18th minute, assisted by Carlos Longoria, to make it 2-0. DJ Sassenhagen IV added a late goal in the 80th minute, assisted by Guzman, to make it 3-0.
Senior GK Casey Clemo (Forney, Texas) went the distance in goal for the Gents and made seven saves. Ernesto Avila also played the whole match for the Bulldogs and recorded a pair of saves. TLU finished with a 22-7 advantage in shots and took six corner kicks to Centenary's one.
The Gents, despite Friday's loss, have won four of six and are in the mix for a berth into next month's SCAC Soccer Tournament with just two regular season matches remaining. The Gents, picked to finish eighth in the preseason poll, have accumulated 15 points and are currently sixth in the conference standings, and their five wins are tied for the third-most in the league with Concordia (5-1-3), Austin College (5-2-2) Hendrix (5-3-1).
The 2025 SCAC Men's Soccer Tournament returns to a six-team format for the first time since the 2020-21 COVID-19 shortened season. The tournament will be held the first week of November at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex in Round Rock, Texas. Quarterfinal matches will be contested on Thursday, Nov. 6, the semifinal matches on Friday, Nov. 7 and the championship match will be played Sunday, Nov. 9.
The Gents will wrap up the weekend with their home finale on Sunday versus Concordia University at 2 PM.
