Gents Fall 4-1 To Hawks On Road
The Centenary men's soccer team fell 4-1 to the Huntingdon College Hawks in a non-conference contest on Friday afternoon at the Samford Soccer Complex.
Montgomery, Ala. - The Centenary men's soccer team fell 4-1 to the Huntingdon College Hawks in a non-conference contest on Friday afternoon at the Samford Soccer Complex.
The Gents (1-1-1) were playing on the road for the first this season while the Hawks (1-1-1) were home for the second time this season and rebounded from a 4-1 loss at Oglethorpe on Tuesday. Centenary leads the all-time series 3-2.
Centenary struck first and early in Friday's match, as junior D Aidan Miller (Keller, Texas) found the net just 3:03 into the contest for a 1-0 lead. The goal, an unassisted one, was Miller's first of his career. The Hawks, though, quickly responded and tied the match just over two minutes later as Josh Shannon scored with Dashun McDonald assisting to make it 1-1.
Aaron McCrory, with McDonald again assisting, scored in the 12th minute to make it 2-1. The Hawks took that 2-1 lead into the halftime locker room and then scored a pair of second-half goals as Christian Ortiz scored an unassisted goal in the 57th minute to make it 3-1 and McDonald added a goal, an unassisted one, to his two assists with a scored in the 66th minute to make it 4-1.
Senior GK Sam Brocato (Leesville, La.) went the distance in goal for the Gents and made five saves while Trent Wineberg also played all 90 minutes and was busy as he made 14 saves. The aggressive Gents took 21 shots to the Hawks' 11 and 15 were on goal while Huntingdon finished with nine on target. Centenary took six corner kicks to two for Huntingdon and the teams combined for 27 fouls - 14 on the Gents and 13 on the Hawks.
The Gents are back home on Sunday to face Lyon College in a non-conference contest at 2 PM.
